Can any one help this lady? I am pretty sure where it is, but don't want to venture, as it would be strictly a guess . thanks Betty ----- Original Message ----- From: GMCBarbara@aol.com To: macbetty2@peoplepc.com Sent: Saturday, May 24, 2008 9:09 AM Subject: New Hope Academy Hi Betty, My grandfather, Marion Wilson Gonce, attended New Hope Academy at Sunnyside, Tenn in 1886. Do you have any idea where this was? He would have been 21 years old. I have a copy of his very good grades. He went on to teach school somewhere for a few years before getting married and farming. I enjoy all your information/pictures on the Marion County website. Betty, I'm not familar with the New Hope Academy but New Hope is just across the river from South Pittsburg. I think that area is also called Sunnyside but the GNIS map server is down for the weekend and I can't verify that. I notice that there is a class picture for the Sunnyside School at the Marion website - no date given but looks like 1930's or 40's. Bill she lives in New Hope and says she has no idea where it was located either. I am positive Sunny side is on that side of the river too. I googled the map for the area for her -- before I knew she lives in New Hope, and sent that to her. The report card, which she has sent us to put on the web site, says New Hope Academy in Sunnyside, Tn 1886 J.H. Latimer, Principal E.A. Ashburn, Associate Principal Sure hope some one else can remember hearing their ancestors talk about it????? Thanks though Betty ----- Original Message ----- From: bill To: tnmarion@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, May 24, 2008 3:23 PM Subject: Re: [TNMARION] Fw: New Hope Academy Betty, I'm not familar with the New Hope Academy but New Hope is just across the river from South Pittsburg. Now I'm beginning to wonder. James H. Latimer a school teacher lived in Jasper in 1880. And I find reference to one of the old post offices near Jasper being Sunnyside. Maybe the New Hope Academy was actually near Jasper....? The academy name doesn't have to relate to the location - there's a New Hope Academy in Williamson Co, Tn today and there is no New Hope town or community in the county.
