The MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship) from all 5 of our circuit Churches plus Jasper and South Pittsburgh would meet together quarterly. There was a Kilgore man who John Ferrell shot either in the late 50s or early 60s. He was a real nice guy, and John was somewhat unbalanced. A case of just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I stopped at the Jasper drive in after a date one night, and John tried to pick a fight, I just laughed at him and kept walking. He did the same thing with someone else (now I am going to not rest until I remember who) who took exception, and John hit him in the face with brass nucks. John said that he had just got them, and wanted to try them out. The guy went to the hospital and John went to jail.
