    3. Helen, I don't know anything about the Smith's but your info refers to the Scalling district (which many people do). There is no such district. It's "Scattering" on the census records which I think means it's last minute additions to the census and could be from about any district. I think it includes those families where it was discovered that they were missed and added before sending the final count to the census bureau.
