    1. [TNMARION] MORE ON JOHN SHOEMAKE
    2. John Shoemake's son, Sampson, married Martha Smith in Marion County on 26 February 1854. This was the widow's statement on her Pension papers. Martha was born about 1840. The family later lived in Bledsoe County, then Bedford County where Sampson died in 1875 in Fairfield. Their son, William F., is believed to have been born about 1856. There was a land grant to a John Shoemake in 1855 in Marion County for 230 acres on which his house and farm were situated. The boundaries name James Prigmore (sp), D. Sharshean (sp), Henry Smith now W. Turner's line. Also mentioned are Hale's branch and Anderson Creek. This Henry Smith may be related to Martha Smith who married Sampson Shoemake. Any clues or suggestions about this Shoemake/Shumake family will be appreciated. Jeanne Strong
