I received this morning from a lady that is not subscribed to our list yet. Thought it would be of interest to all. Dear Mrs. McBee, The deed published on the Marion County website between J. E. Teague and J. N. Smith is very interesting to me. Most of the people mentioned in the deed seem to be connections to my great grandfather. I believe J. N. Smith and A. M. Smith were brothers of my great grandfather, and J. E. Teague was their uncle. Thomas Golston may have been J. N. Smith's father-in-law and G. W. Golston could have been Thomas's son. If I am correct, James Noah Smith and Alfred M. Smith were sons of Layton Key Smith. James Noah's first wife was Elizabeth Golston, daughter of Thomas Golston, and Joshua E. Teague was married to Sarah Smith, Layton's sister. If Helen Smith Hoke is also interested in this family, I would like very much to exchange information with her. There are some mysteries about the family that have eluded two generations of researchers. I am Jean Crowder and my e-mail address is crowdertech@sbcglobal.net. I would appreciate your help if you could put me in touch with Mrs. Hoke. I have transcribed four Marion County deeds that might be of interest to you. Three of them describe land transactions of Layton K. Smith and the last one concerns the sale of land in settlement of his estate and mentions five of his six children. If you are interested in them, I will e-mail the transcriptions to you, or copy the copies I have and mail them to you. The copies are not as readable as I would like. I copied them from the microfiles at the Marion County Courthouse two or three years ago. I think they were originally transcribed by the WPA workers in the 1930s. Thank you so much for publishing the deed on the website and thank you also for any help you can provide in putting me in touch with Mrs. Hoke. Best Regards Jean Crowder
I have no idea why all of my post are being posted twice. sorry but nothing I can do about it -- Nor do I have any idea, as of now, if it is rootsweb or my carrier. -- So all I can do is say sorry and hope you don't get this twice. betty
