Euline the Goodspeed records were written all over the United States for each county in each State-- or at least what were the States at that time period ( 1880 to 1890 era) thanks Betty
Don't want to burst your bubble, but Goodspeed did not travel all over the U.S. In West Virginia and Ohio it was H.H. Hardesty and Co. There were many different firms in Pennsylvania and Indiana and other parts of the midwest. Same idea though. Pay a substantial amount of money and receive a write-up and a book. Extra $ if you wanted a photo/drawing. The nation's centennial was the impetus for this movement. As many of you know, it was the bicentennial which launched hundreds (literally) of County History/Heritage books. These projects continue to this very day. We anticipate it will take at least 20 years to complete the process. Happy hunting!
