The best place to go is the Whitwell Library, but go before lunch, for some reason they can't take turns eating and shut the place down for lunch.
A few years ago we stayed in Chatanooga, and found as we went over Lookout Mt. to Whitwell and Dunlap, the time zone changed! Smile! If I recall correctly, all the courthouses were closed on Thursday. wanda casker in south carolina
Wanda , yes the time zone does change -- Marion County is on Central time zone where Chattanooga , Hamilton county is in Eastern Time Zone. Do you know why the court house were closed on Thursdays? I am sure they would probably be closed on the weekend but I do believe the libraries are open on Saturdays. At least until noon in Jasper -- does any one else have the times for them ? I was just looking at a short video located at http://www.southpittsburg.com/flood.ram of the flash flooding there yesterday. Wow !!! There is a severe weather alert posted for South Pittsburg for now. Here is a sight located from our web site that gives some information on South Pittsburg http://www.southpittsburg.com/ Betty
Whitwell is on Central Time (slow time as they refer to it) and Chattanooga is on Eastern Time (fast time), -----Original Message----- From: Wanda Casker [mailto:tcasker@ftc-i.net] Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2003 3:30 PM To: TNMARION-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNMARION] Trip to Marion Co next week A few years ago we stayed in Chatanooga, and found as we went over Lookout Mt. to Whitwell and Dunlap, the time zone changed! When we visited the Whitwell Library, we found a hardback book had been published in 1976, called "Alexander Kelly Descendants 1750-1975." We were then able to purchase a copy from the author of her family. It is mostly genealogical, but it does have some photos of people and homes. I cannot put my hands on the information right now, but I believe the Kellys have a reunion picnic every summer. If anyone was interested you might be able to track down that information. wanda casker
This made me laugh because I remember when we lived back there for 2 years (in Guild a.k.a. Haletown) every event was noted by "our" time and "Chattanooga" time. It really confused me for a while.
