    1. [TNMARION] Hughes in TN, OK,AL,AR and TX
    2. Don & Maxine Blair
    3. McHenry (Mack Henry) was born in 1832 in Rhea County as were all of JW Hughes children. He moved to Texas sometime after 1880. I think that perhaps it was after 1884 when his 2 half brothers George W. and Asberry Green Hughes were hung in Jackson County Alabama. They were hung for arson in Aug 1884. They were not guilty but the man who committed the crime did not confess until around 1893 when he was about to die. I think that this was very hard on the family because I can't find any of my Hugheses in Rhea County after 1888, when John Walker Hughes died. Rufus Calvin Hughes was born abt 1834. He is said to be buried in Burmingham, Alabama. He had a son William that went to Kaufman County, Texas. Jackson Hughes was born about 1838 and I think that I found his marriage in Knox County to Elzena Carloss - 23 May 1862. It is the only Jackson that I can find, so I am assuming that he is mine until I find a better one. Thomas Pleasant Hughes was born abt 1839. He moved to Arkansas and married a Tennessee girl - Sarah Catherine Adcock/Adcox/Odcox in 1866. Their first son was William Mack Henry Hughes, he was born in Batesville, Arkansas. John Hughes is unknown to me but was born abt 1843. I can't find a thing about him. William J Terrell Hughes was born about 1845 and my grandmother states that he was a twin to Mary C Hughes. William was married to a Mandy J and they had eight children and they ended up in Hall County Texas as did my gg grandfather Mack Henry. James P Hughes was born 1847 was married in Jackson County Alabama and was in the 1870 Census there. He had a wife Mary and a baby Eliza R (named after his younger sister - Eliza R Hughes born 1849). In 1880 I found him in Tennessee again and married to someone else and has three children but not Eliza R. I don't know what happened to them. The above children were the product of JW Hughes and Mary Davis. JW married Catherine Margaret Mathis in the mid 1850's. She was 20 years old on the 1860 census. They had 6 children with the last 2 questionable. Sarah Elender was born abt 1859 and later census states she is insane. She remains with her father all her life. Asberry and George were born abt 1862-1864. There were hung as young men. The remaining son was John W. Hughes (Jr.) He is never stated as a junior but I use it to tell them apart. I found him in 1880 in Blount as a 15 year old boarder. He is in the 1900 census in either Meigs or McMinn County with 5 boys. Samuel - 1890, Henry - 1893, George - 1895, Mack -1896, and Danford - 1898. I cannot find anything on these boys or their father after the 1900 census. I am sure that my ggg grandmother left my grandfather - JWHughes because I can't find John or Jackson or Thomas P in Rhea County after the 1850 census. If anyone can connect or know anything of these families please let me know. Thanks Maxine Hughes Blair dmblair@usasn.com
