My gggrandmother, Savannah Jolly McClendon, died in 1928. She passed away, and was embalmed in Whitwell Tennessee(Hicks Chapel area). She is buried in Garrison Cemetary, in Rhea County with her husband. I have tried to get a death certificate for her, from Nashville, to Rhea Co., but no one seems to have a copy. Since she died in Marion Co., I assumed they would have sent a copy to Nashville. This is what they have said. Her obituary in the Chattanooga Times, states that arrangements were made by Nelson. I know she was one of the first people in the state to be embalmed, and my Aunt remembers peeking in the windows and watching. I have been unable to trace any of the papers. I know that Nelson Funeral home went out of business, and I visited the funeral homes last year from Whitwell to Dayton, and no one had heard of this particular funeral home.
