Just thought I'd pass this information along to anyone who might be interested: The East Tenn. Historical Society is sponsoring 2 programs called: First Families of Tennessee: http://www.east-tennessee-history.org/default.cfm?FuseAction=184321& SectionID=0&TSMI=18 and Civil War Families of Tennessee: http://www.east-tennessee-history.org/?FuseAction=184321&SectionID=0&TSMI=19 The criteria for the First Families is that your ancestor be living in TN in 1796 or before. You must document lineage, etc. They have applications that you can download in .pdf format. The criteria for the Civil War families is that you have a direct or collateral relation who served in the Civil War as either Union or Confederate. You need proof of service and documentation proving lineage. I think these books will be great references for our future generations!
