Mary "Polly" Ann Smith Benjamin Franklin m. Martha Ann Smith George Washington m. Mary Jane Smith These 3 Smiths were supposed to be cousins, but I've never been able to prove it. What I do have is that Polly Ann Smith's parents were William H. and Caroline Louisa Smith ( I don't know what Caroline's maiden name was). I'm still weeding through census records to see if I can make a match. I have never been able to connect William H. Smith to Ransom Smith, but I've not discovered who his parents were yet, so it's still a possibility. According to census records, William was born August 1837 and Caroline was born October 1837. That list you sent out the other day had William Smith and wife Caroline listed on it, but it showed William was 23. Ours would have been about 13 in 1850, so 10 years is a big difference. You never know though, since they really didn't seem to know their own ages back then! I'm going to do some digging on the 1850 census today and see what I can find. I know I looked for William H. before, but wasn't able to come up with anything in Marion Co. -- I'll try some of the surrounding counties today.
