Hi Tim: I am researching George Washington Sitz who was the son of William B. Seitz and Ellender Shote. George was a corporal in the Union Army -- 1st AL & TN Vidette Cavalry. I have seen Sitz spelled "Sitz and Seitz" and Shote has appeared as "Shoat" also. George is my gg-grandfather. My g-grandmother was his daughter from a second marriage to Sarah "Sallie" Richmond -- her name was Mary "Mollie" Mabee Sitz. George was first married to a woman named Margaret who was called "Peggy Ann". They had 3 children that I know of: 2 sons, Francis Marion and Levi N. Sitz; one daughter named Parsade. My cousin who knows more about the Richmond/Sitz side of this has been ill, so I haven't been able to check with her lately on all of this. I know that there is supposed to be Cherokee on the Richmond side as well as the Sitz side. I think it's Ellender who shows up on your Chikamaka Roll. I'm curious also....do you know if the Chickamauga tribe that is mentioned in several history books is the same as the Chikamaka band? Since they sound similar I thought maybe they were the same group with different spellings. I've been doing some reading on the Cherokee Removal. Thanks.....
