    3. What relative would I pick to come to Thanksgiving dinner? That is a hard one. I would love to know why each of them moved west, and why the picked the direction they did. Some moved for land grants for military service, but why did some go to Texas and others to Missouri and Kansas. Did they lose their land because of a bad crop and keep moving west, or were they looking for what we all want, a place that felt like home. I would like to sit down with all 7 (ok, 8, one was a Tory) of the ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War. I would like to find out what they felt about this land that they wanted to form the union. Was it only the taxation without representation or possibly the nobility system of English appointments to high positions (governors etc), or was it something more. Of course, like almost everyone, I would love another day with my parents, my brothers. I can think of a thousand questions for my grandparents too! I guess if I had to pick one person, it would be my Daniel Maupin who served in the Rev War as a courier under Gen. George Washington during the winter at Valley Forge and was with Washington till the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown. His service earned him the nickname of "Tough" Daniel Maupin. I can only imagine the experiences he must of had being a courier going behind enemy lines to get Washingtons' messages to his generals, and taking messages back to him. I feel very lucky to have had relatives that have fought for us from the Rev. War to the Gulf War. We can be thankful this Thanksgiving to all those men and women, who have fought for us. 3. Betty, I would invite my greatgrandfather, Uriah Nichols, b. 1817 TN, and then ask him why it is so hard to find out any information about his ancestors. I would explain who I am, his greatgranddaughter, and enlighten him to the many things that have been invented and used since he was alive, as well as tell him about all his many descendants. Heck, I'm surprised at how many things have been invented or come to pass in the 84 years I've been alive!! ginny ----- Original Message ----- From: macbetty<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 13, 2005 7:48 PM Subject: [TNMARION] Thanksgiving Dinner If you could invite an ancestor to Thanksgiving dinner , who would it be?
