    3. I agree Carole. No matter how simple the life our ancestors led, they still faced challenges and heartaches we can't even imagine. We should remember them and the sacrifices they made to give us the life we have today. I often wonder how they moved into territory like Marion Co. way back when. It's still rugged country in places even today, but can you imagine what it must have been like in the early 1800's? I consider myself lucky for having such ancestors. In a world where we tend to get so far away from our roots, I think you're right...those written records of our heritage will only become more important! This Thanksgiving, I'd give anything to have my mother back at our table so she could see her granddaughters (one is her namesake) and to share with her all of the history that I've learned about her family. She sparked the flame in me! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! We should all take heed and leave a small, short diary for future generations. Wouldn't we love to find something like that. I felt my gggrandfather's presence at his home there Jackson County, Alabama when I went there, took pics and then did a pen and ink of it. So many family members were delighted to have copies of the drawing. This past weekend, I went home and found my father's diary he kept during WWII while he was aboard the USS Hershey, he wasn't supposed to keep one, would have been court martialed for it, however, he thought he was going to die during that episode, they were constantly stating that they had burned the carriers in that area dn the Japanese were really after Daddy's ship. For about 7 weeks, Daddy wrote everyday, he read so many chapters of the bible, mentioned the food, etc., how much he adored my Mother and on November 16, he noted that his baby (me) would be 2 years old. Now, 61 years later I have the diary in my possession. I can barely wait to let my son read it. This is lengthy, but from Daddy's little diary, he wanted us to know of his love, and he did not want to be forgotten. He wanted a little something left written by him. I really wonder if they would or would they not want us to know about some of things that went on in a normal family and avoid telling us the truth ? I really wonder, sure hope they would be pleased. 3. I agree with you both and I think we all need to keep in mind that no matter what we find out, we need to remember we didn't walk in their shoes and live like they did at the time in their lives -- what they did or didn't do is not our business to judge them -- just to love them for all of our wonderful colorful history.
