    3. Is anyone familiar with a mining accident that happened 01 Jul 1939? My great grandfather died in that one. I was told he worked for the Sunshine Mining Company, somewhere in Marion County. I understand that he is the only one who died in the accident. His name- William Benjamin Graves. Thanks, Sandie --------------------------------- Yahoo! DSL Something to write home about. 3. The Sunshine Mining Co. was actually in Kellogg, Idaho. There was another accident there in 1971 that killed 91 people. You might want to contact the library in Kellogg to see if they have anything on the 1939 accident. The MSHA only lists them back to 1970, but you could e-mail them and see if they have records going back further. http://www.msha.gov/MSHAINFO/FactSheets/MSHAFCT8.HTM Sandie Huffstutler <[email protected]> wrote: Is anyone familiar with a mining accident that happened 01 Jul 1939? 3. Hmmmm, I know he died in Tennessee. This is the obituary that my cousin sent to me. I haven't found this obituary myself, though. OBITUARY:"COAL MINER IS KILLED; ROCKS CRUSH HIS HEAD William B. Graves, 63-year-old coal miner, of Signal Mountain, was fatally injured yesterday afternoon when struck by falling slate and rock in a mine of the Sunshine Coal company on Walden's Ridge. Physicians said the fall struck Graves in the head, crushing his skull. Sandie Mike & Donna OBrien <[email protected]> wrote: The Sunshine Mining Co. was actually in Kellogg, Idaho. 3. I also wonder if the mine was owned by Sunshine Mining Co., but was called something else. I know all the ones out in Idaho and Colorado were owned by them, but each mine had a different name and No. depending on where it was located. It's possible that it wasn't a mine failure, but a freak accident. Donna Sandie Huffstutler <[email protected]> wrote: You know, I just re-read that obit.
