    3. Census takers made a LOT of mistakes.....no matter what they signed off to on the last page....where they swear they have correctly counted and visited all the homes. I have in my files where in 1930 two different census takers enumerated the same homes in one part of Walker County, Tx. My g-grandparents are on one sheet with just 3 of their children and on another sheet with all 4 children, plus a son-in-law. I have several times read each census sheet for a particular county and NOT found my husband's grandfather at all.....and he WAS living there at the time. Same with my own great-grandparents in 1920. And some families simply would not talk to the census guys....especially if they were new to the country. They make lots of errors with names, and depending on who was asked the questions, other info is wrong also. If the family was not home, a neighbor may have been asked. Just consider all the possibilities when looking at census sheets (those that are legible anyway...haha). Pat --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail Stay connected, organized, and protected.
