    3. you might want to keep in mind a lot of people ( majority) could not read nor write and so the census taker filled in the blank spaces for them----------------- imagine this exaggerated scenario: You are the wife -- you do not know how to read and barely can sign your name, your husband is off to work and just you and the 5 children are home alone-- the census taker knocks on your door ---- your husband has told you not to let any one in the house, so you stand at the door -- little Johnny is tugging at your skirt and desperately needs changing , Mary wants to be fed , Susie has decided since Mom is busy now is a good time to get into the fascinating items, Mom forbids you in, your dinner is boiling over on the stove --- etc. so forth--- about this time you are so flustered you can't remember exactly what your name is, let alone where your husband was born or even for sure how old he is--- his cousin lives down the road a piece, so the census taker thinks well if he was born in Ind then so must your husband be.----- Next time he comes 10 years latter -- most of the kids are in school so you can think --- keeping in mind most people were very suspicious of any government agency and only filled out what they absolutely had too------------ I know for a fact some people used to consider it none of the government's business where you were born or when or anything else about them. ----------- Besides that since he was married more than once perhaps he could have not told or not even bothered to mention it, unless she asked, the new wife anything about where he was born or even when ------- majority of people then did not celebrate their birthdays with big elaborate parties as we sometimes do now. -------------- think about it -- could this be the reasoning?
