Can any one help this fellow? ----- Original Message ----- From: Chad Russell To: macbetty2@peoplepc.com Sent: Saturday, April 12, 2008 8:26 PM Subject: Russell surname in Marion County Ms. McBee, My great great grandfather shows up in a census record dated from 1910 in Marion county. His name was William Edward Russell, supposedly born around 1880 in Tennessee. I don't suppose you have access to these records personally, but if you do, I was wondering if there was a possibility you could find out if he was born in Marion county. And if so, what his parent's names were. This has been quite an arduous search, and any light shed on the subject would please me greatly, as I seem to have hit a brick wall. I live in West Virginia, which makes it virtually impossible to travel to Marion county myself and research this information, so again, please respond if at all possible. With sincere gratitude, Chad Russell __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

>From a newspaper clipping in Whitwell, I found that my grandparents were married in Grundy County. Actually, the day we found this in the library, we went over there to find the courthouse closed. I then found a license on microfilm from the LDS. It was suggested by a genealogist that I try finding an application for marriage license. Has anybody any experience with finding an application to get a marriage license? I'm not looking it up right now, but probably around 1905. I actually have one of these marriage applications from Pennsylvania and it was two pages long with information. On the death certificate for my grandfather, it said parents unknown, and apparently he was orphaned and on his own when very young which would be somewhere between 1880 and 1890. I've studied census records in about three states for 1880 when he was 8 years old and I haven't found anything that looks like a possibility to be him. Thanks.
Do you know if they could have gone to live with another relative or party as a servant? If so they would have been listed under the head of households name. Have you check out the poorhouse section of the census, there is another name for them besides the poor house, just can't remember right now?? ---. These listing are usually at the back of the regular section of the census-- Have you checked out the orphanages in that area? I am not sure they list the names in the orphanages. ----- Original Message ----- From: wmc2310@ftc-i.net To: tnmarion@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, April 08, 2008 12:59 PM Subject: Re: [TNMARION] question on marriage >From a newspaper clipping in Whitwell, I found that my grandparents were married in Grundy County. A lot of times I have found that the computerized indexing done by ancestry.com or heritagequest skips people. I have taken to checking both and even then not fnding. Also sometimes children in the house are listed under a different surname ie. My wife;s father is listed in the 1900 cesnus as Benjamin Barton in 1910 as Wesley Archer and in 1920 as Wesley Barton. BTW he was always living with his mother. --- macbetty2@peoplepc.com wrote: > Do you know if they could have gone to live with > another relative or party as a servant? Donna when requesting a death certif.. you can ask for a certif for a female using her maiden name? I was just assuming if she married..her death certif would be listed under her married name.. am i making sense? i have an individule names Sarah E Powers, born April 15, 1856 to a Jesse Powers and Susannah Petrey..she was born in Whitley , Ky butlater her family moved to Campbell Co, Tenn..i can find her birth record, i can find her being in Ky at the age of 5 in the 1860 census..the family appears in 1880 the family is now in Upper Elk, Campbell Tenn...no Sarah, i looked for a death certif cannot find one online..so either she died or married between 1860 and 1880..any suggestions? This will usually show her maiden name, names of parents and their places of birth. Try getting the birth or death cert. for one of her children; this also usually shows the mother's maiden name. Collateral relatives can be helpful too. If there's no death cert. on file for the person you need, try getting one for a sibling instead. Debbie: Sorry, I thought you were trying to find her maiden name. Some counties have searchable marriage records that you can search by either groom or bride's name. I would try seeking out marriage records for between 1870 & 1880 in Whitley Co., KY and Campbell Co., TN. I did find the family on the 1870 census. They were still in Whitley Co. -- I'll send you the copy off the list.
