    1. Re: [TNMARION] Cemetery Where is?
    2. Betty I don't have proof of where the name Sweeten came from but we do have a book published by Jerry Blevins of Huntsville Ala that he abstracted from the original records of the Sweetens Cove Church, the original is in the rare documents of the Chattanooga library. According to the book written by Leonard Raulston and James Livingood they quote the following: The Sequatchie Valley Association of the Baptist Church was formed in 1820 and the next year the Primitive Baptist church in Sweeten's Cove was established by Elisha Blevins and John Kelly who had been called from another church up the river to help in the organization. This new church was called the Union Church. In Jerry's book he says the name was changed in 1834 to Sweetens Cove Primitive Baptist church. Pittsburg about 2 years ago. I talked to Jim Rogers about the old records. He told me his Dad was not very much on keeping accurate records and what they did have were lost in a fire in the late 40's, early 50's. You'd probably have better luck with the church records. 2. Thank you Euline for clearing that up -- but don't you think over the years it got spelled more by how it was pronounced than the actual spelling -- as I know for a fact the address with the post office was spelled Swedens Cove-- On Mac's Navy records it is spelled that way too. ----- Original Message ----- From: H62833@aol.com To: tnmarion@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2008 2:31 PM Subject: Re: [TNMARION] Cemetery Where is? 3. Well, looks like Bobby solved the church mystery. Now, how about the New Hope Academy? Where do we stand on that? On the map I found New Hope loop (following a tipoff from Bill Mc) located in Sunny Side, Sequatchie Co, Tn. Didn't someone tie Sunny Side and New Hope Academy together? Sunny Side is located between Whitwell and Dunlap near a place called Condra. It's only a few miles from here and I would be glad to drive up there tomorrow and see what's there if we need me to. People love to start things...and I don't think their is a woman on this earth who would do such a thing so that her husband would never rest in peace! LOL..you guys are just to funny!!! I have to share something with you all.. has nothing to do with your area.. but while at my house here in NC...they uncovered a small grave site..about 8 graves... of course I yelled "STOP" as we drove by.. my husband shook his head but knowing I would not shut up unless he did..stopped.. I hiked by butt up the side of the mountain.. in flip flops!!! took pics of the stones and wrote down names and dates... I posted on another surname site...found someone who says they are related and was so excited to get the info to where the graves were.. made my week last week!!! Was nice to be able to help another genealogy researcher find some new info...so if anyone here is looking into the Conley name...Joseph, Matilda, Edward, George or Annie L i have some photos and the dates are back to 1808. But no TV antennas, or satellite dish..LOL deb In a message dated 5/28/2008 11:38:02 P.M. 2. There are several graves beside the church where the grave had the entenna. In fact, Melinda Tate is buried there. She was married to one of the Tate twins, either Elisha or Elijah, can't remember which, from the Civil War era. The twins fought on opposite sides to ensure that the family land would be secure. They are related to the Ladds whom I am kin to as well. I made a half-hearted search for the photo, but no luck yet finding it. It may be down at my mom's in some more of dad's other stuff. I know it hasn't been that long since I last saw the photo. I did manage to find the one my dad took of a sign in Wincheser I think that was behind a fire hydrant. The sign read: "No Parking On Fire Hydrant." This one we always found amusing and not sure if it still stands. The picture was made in the early 1980s. 1. Re: [TNMARION] Cemetery that had tv entenna at grave
    2. There were so many emails going around that I'm not sure which email you are referring to? I did get one from him on our web site's address. Haven't had a chance to respond to it yet. The mystery church I think is the one that has a fire department near it that is closer to Kimball than the Martin Springs Baptist Church. 1. Re: [TNMARION] need help with a mystery
    2. The cemetery is in between the interstate and the old highway about half way between Kimball exit 152 and Martin Springs exit 143. You can't miss it when driving either roadway. It is the only one that is located between the two roads. 1. Re: [TNMARION] need help with a mystery
    2. >From what I remember about the set up, it appeared that the entenna served for a tv in the church. At least with the wire leading from the entenna to the church would lead one to think that. That would be the logical explaination. Maybe the grave site gave the best reception for the church and they just stuck it up there. Then again, it could be one of the explainations that you heard. If I ever run across the photo I'll send a copy into the web site. The last time I was out that way the entenna has long since been removed. Maybe the deceased got cable? I wonder how long it will be before they upgrade to a satelite dish? 1. Re: [TNMARION] Cemetery Where is?
    2. Good to know. I'll copy this email to Carolyn Millhiser, our historic society's secretary, so that she can compare it with any records she may have. I know she has a copy of a few later minutes from the old Primitive Baptist Church at SP that she copied from some of those that Bebe has. We'll let you know if anything is found. 3. Ok guys now my 11 yr old son was looking at me strange because rotfl & so I had to tell him about the antenna, he will be waiting on the pic also. Exit 143 is where the old gas station used to be along with access to Battlecreek Log Homes. She may have misread 143 for 148. YEARS ago I remember going along Battlecreek Rd(hwy 2) and seeing an old abanded church right by the rd on the left. If I have time I will go that way before class on Thursday. Do you guys know why there would be pink tape ont the left side of pic? ----- Original Message ----- From: <dennylambert@bellsouth.net> To: <tnmarion@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 29, 2008 12:28 AM Subject: Re: [TNMARION] need help with a mystery > There are several graves beside the church where the grave had the > entenna.
