    3. Seasons Greetings to One and All! This is a good reminder. Many times throughout the year we have lots of new people just staring out on their roots hunting. Sometimes we forget that there are others out there that have not been searching two, five or even ten years. They are not sure what to do. Maybe they just ran across this site today. We need to consider that all questions are good and that someone is asking them because they don't know and need to have an answer. In this new year we need to strive to make this mail list truely a helpful one for all. If you are new, how can we help? If you have been around for awhile, never hesitate to help others, answer queries, and help all enjoy learning about personal history. Remember, once you were where they are today. Cheers and have a Happy New Year! Noel Matthews noelm@noelm.com

    3. Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!! Thought I would jump in and put my info here just by chance that some of you might be able to fill a hole or two. I am trying to find when William Thomas CRAWFORD (and wife Nancy Davis Crawford) arrived in Marion Co. I know that he was there February 11, 1863 because one of his children, Enos Christman Crawfore, was born there then. He left Polk County sometimes in 1860-1863 time period for Marion Co. but not sure when. One child was born (and died) in Polk Co sometimes in 1860. Don't know this exact date yet. This child was probably a twin to John A. Crawford, again not sure of date of birth (except for 1860), or location. One child, Mary Elizabeth Crawford, was born March 26, 1861 but don't know where yet, either Polk Co. or Marion Co., or some where inbetween. The family was still in Marion county in 1866 because Thomas Grant Crawford was born in Marion Co., not sure of the exact date. They were in Texas by the end of 1867, either Polk County, TX or Medina County, TX. Cheers, Noel

    1. [TNMARION] My Ancestors
    2. I'm particularly interested in the BRANSON, CARROLL, and HAYNES/HAINES families in Marion County from the mid-1810s to early 1830s. My great-great-grandfather, Eli Haynes, was born in Patrick County, Virginia about 1803. He married Mary Branson in Tennessee, probably Marion County in the late 1820s before moving to Gasconade County, Missouri in the winter of 1829. Other Haynes/Haines in Marion County at the same time were Luster and Archibald both of whom also moved to Gasconade County. Luster married Mary Carroll in Marion County about 1818. I don't know who Archibald married although I suspect he is my great-great-great-grandfather. I'm most anxious to verify dates and family relationships. I look forward to hearing from anyone also working on these family lines. 3. The question came up a couple of three times today on how to post your names to the list ,so thought I would answer here as well as reply privately to the question. Address your post to TNMARION-L@rootsweb.com Then in message body, just list all of the names in your list of ancestors. . Please include your e-mail address, as well as your name at the end of message. As Marion county does not post to the list again when you reply to author. Some of the list do , do this and it does make it nice, as that way we can all see what was posted and replyed too. But hey I won't complain , thanks to a very special man named Noel , we have a list up and doing well!! PLEASE DO POST though, as that is the way we find answers. Even if you have traced yours all the way back , you might just help some one else who is just starting out looking. I personally have found lots of leads and connections, by just posting our names to the list. so we need your post please. Happy Holidays and a very fun filled New Year!! 3. I also would like to wish a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. My husband had family in Marion County in the early 1800's. Some moved to Franklin County and then to Coffee County. The one that I know of in Marion is Meshack Stephens, Sr. Have been unable to find a name for his wife but plan to work on this after the holidays are over. There may have been Scotts in Marion County also. They were believed to be in Franklin County and then in Coffee County in 1840. The first one I can find is Amanda Scott and son William (husband's great-grandfather) in Coffee County in 1840. Thanks for reading. 1. Re: [TNMARION] this is not a hoax
    2. Noel C. Matthews
    3. MAX & ALL, I usually don't allow this type of message on the list since most of the warnings ARE a hoax. This one is not. This is a particularly nasty one. It is running rampant on several genealogy lists right now. My best advice to everyone is not to open up any attachments for the next few weeks. This one can rename the attachment to something that doesnot resemble itself. This is probably not the only one that will surfact over the next few weeks. We all need to be extra careful. It is probably not a case of if you will get one, it is a case of when you will get one. DO NOT OPEN any attachments that come from this mailing list. Delete them immediately. Cheers to all for a Happy Holiday Season. Thanks Mac. Noel I am the person in charge of the list and the one that makes sure that everything is working fine. Let me know if you have any questions. 1. [TNMARION] this is not a hoax
    2. Mac
    3. Noel, this one is not a hoax--we know, as it has already hit very close to us here in Idaho. It works like a worm. The person sending it is not even aware that they are sending it. Most virus detectors do take care of it but not always. I do forward a lot of mail and I will no longer be forwarding any with attachments due to this nasty thing. I will leave it up to you if you want to post it or not. The orginal is from Barry County Mo. Folks, this one is a very real virus warning. If you get an exe attachment in your email DO NOT open it without first making sure your virus protection software is the newest available and that you have scanned the file. This goes for exe attachments from folks that you know and trust also because they won't know that they have this worm/virus and will unknowingly pass it on to you. You are safe with messages from this and other RootsWeb mailing lists because attachments are not allowed. Any message with an attachment is sent back to the list owner (Folks like me) and boy are list owners being hit hard! :o) For more information and disinfection instructions depending on which virus software you use, see http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/worm.newapt.html or http://vil.mcafee.com/vil/wm10475.asp If you don't have virus protection software either get one or delete the file then empty your trash right away so no one else with access to your computer opens it. According to the guru's at RootsWeb the most common name for the attachment will be panther.exe but it has also been found with the following names: g-zilla.exe cooler3.exe cooler1.exe copier.exe video.exe pirate.exe goal1.exe hog.exe party.exe saddam.exe monica.exe boss.exe farter.exe cheeseburst.exe theobbq.exe goal.exe baby.exe bboy.exe cupid2.exe fborfw.exe casper.exe irnglant.exe or gadget.exe - ------------------------------------------------------------------ My Personal Page http://people.ce.mediaone.net/susantort/ The Illinois USGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgenweb Shelby County ILGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilshelb2/shelby.htm Barry County MOGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/barry.htm Shake your family tree and watch the nuts fall!

    1. [TNMARION] HAYNES, BRANSON,CARROLL
    2. My kin came from patrick County, Virginia and lived in Marion County in the 1820s and early 1830s before moving on to Gasconade County, Missouri. My great-great- grandfather, Eli Haynes, married Mary Branson in the late 1820s, probably in Marion County. I would appreciate any help in finding proof of this event. Also, I've found record that Luster Haynes lived in the county in 1821 and married Mary Carroll there, perhaps as early as 1818. Is there any record of this marriage? He also appears in the 1830 census. Does any one know who this Luster is? Is he the son of Bethany Haynes of Patrick County, Virginia who earlier married Mary Ann Branson? Likewise, Archibald Haynes is listed in the 1830 census. I think this may be Eli's father. Might he too be the son of Bethany? I would like to hear from any one familiar with these families who might help sort out relationships. I'll gladly share what information I have. 2. Katherine White-Duke
    3. Hi List, Here's a bit of Christmas trivia for those of you who have traced your families back to England during the mid 1600's, especially those of you with Puritans in your lineage. Christmas was once illegal in England. In 1643 the Puritans outlawed all Christmas celebrations, banned the keeping of Christmas trees, and made the singing of Christmas carols a crime. These laws were maintained until the Restoration. Many Puritans in New England also adhered to these regulations, curtailing Christmas festivities to such a degree that even the making a mince pies was forbidden.
