Hello everyone!! Happy Millenium!!! I am searching the SCOTT name. Looking for Elijah Scott, Joseph Scott and also the QUALLS/QUARLES name.
Greetings to All, Here is a note that I copied off of another list that I thought might interest many of you. Noel Matthews From: Bookish59@cs.com The Tennessee State Library & Archives is pleased to announce that the index to Tennessee Confederate Pension Applications is now available on our web site. Tennessee Confederate Pensions were first offered to soldiers in 1891. In 1905 Confederate widows became eligible. The files created by the Pension Board include original applications with data about the soldier's life and service. Many files also contain correspondence and other paperwork related to the claim. The index is found at: http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/pension.htm Librarian Ronald Lee was, as usual, the driving force behind getting this information converted to a computerized format. Charise Artis, a student intern from Tenn. State University, was also instrumental in helping complete the project. We plan to post additional lists sorted by military unit and by county of residence. Ron is leaving for a much-deserved vacation and will work on those when he returns. Let us know if you find this information helpful, or if you have suggestions for improving the site. Positive feedback not only bolsters our enthusiasm to put forth the extra effort required for these massive projects, but also helps make our case when it comes to budget time. Hi and Happy New Year To All! Thought it would be great to do a Roll Call as some people are new to the list like me. I am researching the Surname of Hopkins and Wagoner. Edward Smith
Hello Marion County List! Happy New Year! Noel has inspired me to do more to help others with their Marion County research. So I've scanned and upload to my web site several newspaper article that I received from a cousin researching my Ragsdale family. The years range from about 1903 to the 1940s. Most are in the range of 1903-1925. Some of the areas of Marion county that are mentioned are: Jasper, Whitwell, Victoria, Inman and many others. There are many different families mentioned. I have not completed indexing the names for each page/article (there are 26 pages of articles with about 3-4 articles per page), but I hope to have that huge job completed in a day or so. I'm trying to place links from the surnames in the articles so that you'll be able to go directly to the page you want to search. Please keep in mind that these pages are GRAPHICALLY INTENSE. Depending on you connection and browser, they may take a few seconds to appear. My hope for you this new year is that you'll finally break through that "brickwall" and that you and your family are healthy, safe and prosperous. Please let me know if you find one of your family members mentioned in any of the articles. If I get enough responses, I'll add a page to my site with your family surname and a link to your email address. Check back in a day or so for the surname links. Follow the link below if your interested in checking it out. Joyce Martin Austin, Texas http://jlmartin.home.texas.net/index.html
Cheers! Cheers!! Cheers!!! Welcome Back Everyone. Well the computer is working, says it's 2000, so are the lights, the heat and the water. The sun came up this morning. Still have a freeway behind my house with lots of cars on it. Guess we made it out of the 1900's and into the 2000's. Want to wish everyone a happy New Year. Let's make this a great one. Noel Noel C. Does anyone have any information about William Henry Pickett, father of Dave Pickett? I do not have dates but would assume that this is early or middle 1800's. Thank you. Linda Loyd
Greetings, I am trying to see what information is available in the hands of the subscribers on the list about Marion County. This is not for lookups and the listing will not be posted on this list, but is for a special project that I am working on. I am interested in the following area: Census Listings Goodspeed History and Bios Pictures of the County Family Histories Local Histories Who has web sites that have some sort of content about Marion County Who lives in Marion County or close by What would help you out in your researching in Marion County that is not available to you now. I would like for you to respond to me personally and not to the list. Cheers, Noel Noel Matthews noelm@noelm.com List Administrator TNMARION Mail List
Hi List, Here's a bit of trivia for everyone concerning mourning rituals. Enjoy. In ancient times, it was believed that the spirits of the dead could repossess the body of the living. So, to disguise themselves from evil spirits, mourners painted their bodies black. Later societies translated this custom into wearing black clothes and veils. Greetings, Now that the surname page is up let's think of some other resources that would be of a help in your search. Do you have resources on Marion Co. that you would be willing to do look-ups for others? If so, we could have a page that lists individuals that are willing to do look-ups and the resources that each of you have. This could include tax lists, census listings, marriage books, cemetery listings etc. A lot of these sources are listed on the Marion county Web Page but unless you want to buy them or go to Marion county to use them they are not of much good. If you have listings etc that you would like to have posted along with the surname page, you can send them to me on disk or by e-mail. They need to be transcribed on disk so that I don't have to retype any of them. Also, if you have individual web pages that you would like to have listed that have resources or your family on them We could also list them. What else would be of interest and help to you? Let me know. Cheers, Noel
Greetings to all and Happy New Year (almost) Have a new addition to the Marion County research efforts. I have created a Surname Registration List that is up. This list shows the surnames that you submitted for the recent Roll Call. I think I have all of them listed but probably missed some. Go to the following location and check the list out. http://www.noelm.com/marion/surname.html Check your listing if it is there and make sure that the names are correct and that your e-mail is correct. If you are not listed and would like to be, or if your listing needs to be changed, let me know and I will add your information. Since I do not have the ability or authority to add anything to the regular Marion County County Genealogical Web Site, I figured that this was the next best thing. If there are other things that would make your researching easier let me know and I will look into adding that as well. Cheers to all, Noel Noel C.
