Friends, Is there a inventory of Oak Grove Cemetery on old 41 at the Marion & Grundy Co. Line? I just purchase the Grundy Tombstones (which I needed anyway) but did not realized until to late this cemetery is on the Marion side. I needed to start with this one first. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Gwen Researching TN-G.R.A.H.A.M/N.U.N.N.L.E.Y/B.O.S.T/ M.Y.E.R.S./H.A.N.S.F.O.R.D. KY-H.A.N.S.F.O.R.D. VA-G.R.A.H.A.M/S.T.A.N.B.A.C.K(S.T.A.M.B.A.C.K)

I recieved this from Bradley County list and thought it was interresting . I tried it and it showed two for Mac's side. :-) I thought I would pass this resource along too. It does work. I just recently got two photos I requested, and IT IS FREE. Sharon Dover Romanek FYI: Happy New Year! -- MEW The U.S. Army Military History Institute has started a searchable database of their Special Collections. Using this database you can see if a photograph exists of your Civil War ancestor. Just enter the surname you're searching and the results page will give any photos of any soldier with that surname, along with (if known) his regiment. Next, you can send an e-mail with the photo ID's that you're interested in. The Army will then send you (for free) a photocopy of the picture, along with instructions on ordering a duplicate photo. An 8x10 photo costs $10.00. No more then ten photos will be produced for any one customer per year. http://carlisle-www.army.mil/usamhi/PhotoDB.html You can supply any of your surnames of ancestors that may have been in the Civil War. The brief information usually mentions the regiment associated with the name, so that information can help you locate that person in Military archives

McHenry (Mack Henry) was born in 1832 in Rhea County as were all of JW Hughes children. He moved to Texas sometime after 1880. I think that perhaps it was after 1884 when his 2 half brothers George W. and Asberry Green Hughes were hung in Jackson County Alabama. They were hung for arson in Aug 1884. They were not guilty but the man who committed the crime did not confess until around 1893 when he was about to die. I think that this was very hard on the family because I can't find any of my Hugheses in Rhea County after 1888, when John Walker Hughes died. Rufus Calvin Hughes was born abt 1834. He is said to be buried in Burmingham, Alabama. He had a son William that went to Kaufman County, Texas. Jackson Hughes was born about 1838 and I think that I found his marriage in Knox County to Elzena Carloss - 23 May 1862. It is the only Jackson that I can find, so I am assuming that he is mine until I find a better one. Thomas Pleasant Hughes was born abt 1839. He moved to Arkansas and married a Tennessee girl - Sarah Catherine Adcock/Adcox/Odcox in 1866. Their first son was William Mack Henry Hughes, he was born in Batesville, Arkansas. John Hughes is unknown to me but was born abt 1843. I can't find a thing about him. William J Terrell Hughes was born about 1845 and my grandmother states that he was a twin to Mary C Hughes. William was married to a Mandy J and they had eight children and they ended up in Hall County Texas as did my gg grandfather Mack Henry. James P Hughes was born 1847 was married in Jackson County Alabama and was in the 1870 Census there. He had a wife Mary and a baby Eliza R (named after his younger sister - Eliza R Hughes born 1849). In 1880 I found him in Tennessee again and married to someone else and has three children but not Eliza R. I don't know what happened to them. The above children were the product of JW Hughes and Mary Davis. JW married Catherine Margaret Mathis in the mid 1850's. She was 20 years old on the 1860 census. They had 6 children with the last 2 questionable. Sarah Elender was born abt 1859 and later census states she is insane. She remains with her father all her life. Asberry and George were born abt 1862-1864. There were hung as young men. The remaining son was John W. Hughes (Jr.) He is never stated as a junior but I use it to tell them apart. I found him in 1880 in Blount as a 15 year old boarder. He is in the 1900 census in either Meigs or McMinn County with 5 boys. Samuel - 1890, Henry - 1893, George - 1895, Mack -1896, and Danford - 1898. I cannot find anything on these boys or their father after the 1900 census. I am sure that my ggg grandmother left my grandfather - JWHughes because I can't find John or Jackson or Thomas P in Rhea County after the 1850 census. If anyone can connect or know anything of these families please let me know. Thanks Maxine Hughes Blair dmblair@usasn.com

Friends, Thanks to all for the addresses to the Chamber of Commerce. By writing and asking for the "visiter package to include a county map"-the map is the real value of the package until such time that I can truly go to that area. The maps will list cemeteries, churches etc. I have found family cemeteries this way. At the risk of the Chambers getting wise to me not being able to get to their county right now and not sending the maps I thought I'd share this with all of you. There are a lot of us who are searching counties we are not living in and this really is a good way to see where we are searching. Thanks again and happy hunting, Gwen Researching TN-G.R.A.H.A.M/N.U.N.N.L.E.Y/B.O.S.T/ M.Y.E.R.S./H.A.N.S.F.O.R.D. KY-H.A.N.S.F.O.R.D. VA-G.R.A.H.A.M/S.T.A.N.B.A.C.K(S.T.A.M.B.A.C.K)
Gwen , which towns in Marion and Grundy Counties do you need the Chamber of Commerce for? Jasper is the county seat for Marion County. I am not postive what is the county seat for Grundy County is . Perhaps if you can narrow it down a bit , we might get some one the list, that is local to look the address up for you. :-)
If possible could some one give me an address for the Chamber of Commerce for Grundy Co. and Marion Co. It would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance. John --we are going to need some help here from someone on AOL. As you see I am not on AOL and I double clicked on the address that you sent back to me and instantly it came back up. Maybe we can get some one that is on AOL to respond back to us , on the list, so we can all learn how to do this, for futher references. That would be greatly appreciated. Sorry, I didn't get back to you sooner but my carrier was not delevering mail to me yesterday. Guess it was tired and needed a day off. :-) Yea Sure!! This is the address I have and the one that works for me http://www.tngennet.org/ss/tngenwebss.html John, you might want to just scan through some of the other postings to the list instead of just deleting the rest of us. Sometimes there are clues in others postings to our ancestors with other surnames. For example --the name Harris you listed? I personally know of at least two others that have that name in theirs and post under other surnames . Just a thought . Thanks for posting yours though Thank you so very much Betty McBee fkm@usurf.com
