    1. [TNMARION] Ford Cemetery Records
    2. James Duncan
    3. Prior to 1900 several great aunts and uncles migrated from Marion County to Alabama for work. In 1916 a daughter of a great aunt, died as a young woman and was returned to Marion County for burial. Her name was Jennie Lee Vick as was buried in the Ford cemetery near New Hope. Is there a list of persons buried there, or others that I might contact to obtain such a list. Since Jennie was returned to Marion County maybe other Marion County ancestors would also be there. Would appreciate any information, or leads. Jim Duncan in Arizona

    1. [TNMARION] John CUNNINGHAM, Tennessee, ca. 1820 thru 1842
    2. Herb Cunningham
    3. Surnames: CUNNINGHAM, ALEXANDER, DAVIDSON, PATTERSON, HOLMES, CRAIG, MONTGOMERY, HENDERSON Am looking for any possible assistance in finding the ancestry and origin of a John CUNNINGHAM that arrived in Marion Co., TN in ca. 1822 from points unknown. There is excellent circumstantial evidence, but no known documentation, that this John CUNNINGHAM might be the same individual as another John CUNNINGHAM found in NC, SC, and even TN prior to the arrival in Marion Co., TN. My objective is to confirm or deny that these individuals might be one in the same. The earlier John CUNNINGHAM had direct connections to families named ALEXANDER and DAVIDSON. His father died prior to his birth on 8 July 1783. She later married into the PATTERSON family, then an individual named HOLMES, and finally a gentleman named CRAIG. She out lived each of her four husbands. During these marriages, she lived first lived in SC, then various places in NC, moved to middle TN, northern AL, and finally western TN. Besides her son named John CUNNINGHAM, she had several children by her second husband, and one by her third husband. The John CUNNINGHAM of known interest and his family arrived in Marion Co., TN in ca. 1822. Based on census information, he and his family have almost identical demographics to the family of the earlier John Cunningham. The John CUNNINGHAM, of Marion Co., TN, was born 8 July 1783 or 1784. He gave five of his children obvious surnames as their middle names: Alexander, Davidson, Henderson, Montgomery, and Holmes (or Homes). HENDERSON is believed to be the maiden name of his wife. One of his daughters was named Rachel Montgomery CUNNINGHAM and that matches the married name of what would have been a half sister of the other John CUNNINGHAM. If the two men were one in the same, the Alexander and Davidson names could be explained as they were the surnames of grandparents for the other John CUNNINGHAM being researched. John CUNNINGHAM, of Marion Co., TN, named one daughter Amy Homes (or Holmes) CUNNINGHAM, HOLMES is the surname for the third husband of the mother for the other John CUNNINGHAM. After the death of John CUNNINGHAM in 1842 in Marion Co., TN, son John D. CUNNINGHAM moved to adjacent Jackson Co., AL in ca. 1848. In 1853, John D. CUNNINGHAM purchased land on Sand Mountain, which is located on the eastern side of Jackson Co. and adjacent DeKalb Co., AL. He opened the Cunningham Mines (coal) in partnership with an individual named PATTERSON. PATTERSON was the surname for the second husband of the mother for the other John CUNNINGHAM of interest. John D. CUNNINGHAM also secured a loan to one James DAVIDSON in DeKalb Co., AL in 1853 and that, as previously noted, is the surname of a grandparent to the other John CUNNINGHAM. Would greatly appreciate the opportunity to exchange information with those that could contribute to the resolution of the mystery as to whether or not these two men are one in the same. 1. [TNMARION] Mail Bounces & Web Site Update
    2. Noel C. Matthews
    3. Happy Holidays to Marion County Researchers! May this season bring you a new cousin and news of that elusive ancestor! ****A small reminder**** Mail list volume tends to increase during the holidays. So, since that time is upon us, and many of us will be traveling, and not checking email regularly, I ask that you temporarily UNSUBSCRIBE if you are unable to read or download your email for any extended length of time (but please be sure and re-subscribe when you return). When you've reached your data quota with your individual ISP, your mail bounces to me. I've received many over the last few weeks, and since I, too, will be traveling during the holidays, it increases my mail twofold. To help all of us manage the mail volume during the holidays, mail addresses that bounces more than 2 times to the same address will be unsubscribed from the TNMARION mail list. To unsubscribe from the TNMARION mail list, send your unsubscribe request to the following addresses: for regular mail: tnmarion-l-request@rootsweb.com for digest mail: tnmarion-d-request@rootsweb.com And, for any other rootsweb.com mail list, just replace "tnmarion" with the name of that particular list. As I have had to pretty much take the last year off from the administrating duties of the mailing list and the upkeep/update of the Marion County Web Site, major changes and redesign are in the works. The web site is in the process of getting a major face-lift with new format, categories and information. There will also be more of an opportunity for you to participate in sharing your information, pictures and stories with others. Many of you have sent information to me over the past several months to be added, and I will be back in touch with you on these areas. If you have suggestions or questions about the web site let me know. We need to get the Marion County site back to the level it was before I had to step away for awhile. Thanks for being patient and sticking around over the past year. It has been a bear but the light at the end of the tunnel is on and brightly shinning. And again, if you have any questions or comments, please write to me! Have a wonderfully happy and safe holiday! Cheers to all, Noel Matthews Marion Co, TN http://www.noelm.com/marion/home.html Subscribe/Unsubscribe to Marion County Mail List TNMARION-L-request@rootsweb.com

    1. [TNMARION] BLANKENSHIP's
    2. Hello Everyone, This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. The reason being is that I am looking for my Calvin Blankenship without much to go on. I found Calvin BLankenship married to Deliah on the 1850 Texas County, MO census. Living next door to Calvin is WIlliam Blankenship and his wife, Pamela Jane. Since Calvin was only a couple of years older than William, I have to assume they are related, if not brothers, because they were the only Blankenships in TExas County at this time and they were both born in TN and both of their wives in IL (just thought that was interesting). SInce Calvin Died during the civil war (there is no record on him except a muster roll), he wasnt around when the government started asking where their parents were born. I followed Deiliah until 1880. I estimate her time of death between 1881-1883. I followed William, and he lists his parents as also being born in TN ..... although its a shot in the dark, is there anyone out there that has a link to a BLANKENSHIP's that had a son named Calvin, (who was born abt 1820-25) and/or William (b. abt.1823-1826). I do not have Calvin's parents names or their wives maiden names. I am hoping to connect them to someone who might be able to shed some light on this for me .... Thank you in advance!!!! Thank you! 1. [TNMARION] what to eat in 1897
    2. Macbetty
    3. I recieved this from another list and thought it might be of interest to some of you too. Seems like we have always been a nation obsessed with diet and health. --------------------Betty What To Eat Some Sensible Suggestions That Should Be Posted in Every Household Aristonite, writing in that excellent gastronomic journal, What to Eat, makes a few sensible suggestions in regard to the diet that ought to be posted in every household. He says that the healthiest and purest lives comes from those who do not eat meat before the age of 15. Potatoes, sliced thin and fried, are indigestible. While tasting delicious, they afford no real nourishment and cause a derangement of the liver. Cake clogs the stomach. All rich pastries is poison to the liver. Soft caramels and creams are also bad for anyone with a liver at all rebellious. When you get old, look out for your food. Do you ever notice that grandfathers face is not as jolly as it used to be? His strength of mind also seems slowly disappearing, though he is getting fleshier every day. He needs a change of food. Probably he has been eating buckwheat cakes and sirup, white bread and butter, sugar fat meats, etc. Give him lean meat and fish, cracked wheat and potatoes, barley, cakes, rye bread or southern corn cakes. Try it, and instead of moping and sitting round the house all day you will find him running around lively as a cricket. Maybe, on the contrary, he is growing thin and pale. Then he needs buckwheat and molasses, fat meats, mashed potatoes in milk, southern corn, cracked wheat and fish, oatmeal porridge and fruit every morning. All rules have their exceptions, and the diet described for the mass may not answer for exceptional cases, but the following directions are good for the majority. Milk is the simplest and most natural food. If you cannot drink it, your stomach is in a diseased condition. Cheese is a good substitute, if mild, fresh and made from pure milk and cream. Persons who live mostly on vegetables have the best nerves and the best complexions. Red pepper is an excellent condiment. Its effect upon the liver is remarkable. Malaria, intermittent fever or congestive chills cannot endure the presence of red pepper. Pure red pepper (known as cayenne) should be on every table. Ill health is caused largely by improper food or by food which is in a bad condition when it is eaten. The West Duluth Sun July 29, 1897

    2. Macbetty
    3. Hello, I now have a day and time for the DNA testing to be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, Tullahoma, TN. It will be on December 2, 2000 beginning at 9:30. There will be someone here to show you where to go. If you're coming in to Tullahoma through Moore County, as you come into the residential area, look to your left for Hwy 130. A Lutheran Church will be on your right. The LDS church is just to your right on 130, Old Shelbyville Hwy. If you're coming in from Manchester to Tullahoma, go straight off the Viaduct to a dead end. There will be a Baptist Church directly in front of you and a funeral home to your right. Turn right and go to the second light, Wilson Ave. Turn left and go on down to you see the highway 130 on your right. There is one house and then the church. Coming into Tullahoma from Winchester, turn left at the light at the end of the Viaduct and proceed as in the previous direction. If you have problems finding us, call the church at 455-5230. For those of you who are at a distance, don't rush. I'm sure this will take a good part of the day. Please mark the event on your calendars. Don't forget your four generation pedigree charts. Please pass the word on to those that you had previously contacted and anyone else who may be interested. There is no limit. There has been a very good response and I look forward to seeing you all here. Regards, Judy Henley Phillips 1000 Westside Dr. Tullahoma, TN 37388 (931) 455-9681 jphilps@edge.net

    1. [TNMARION] William Bassham
    2. Dawnene B Young
    3. Hi: Hate to trouble everyone over my William again, but I'm thinking that my William can't be Archibald's son, as my William Bassham appears in the 1830 and 1840 censuses of Marion County, TN, and Archibald's son William appears in the Giles County 1830 and 1840 censuses along with Archibald. The same person can't appear in two different counties, can he? The William in Marion County is over 60 in 1840. Archibald is between 70-80 in 1840. So, who then is the William Bassham in Marion County? He is father to Reuben (born abt 1805), James (b. abt 1829), William (b. abt 1831), Rhoda (b. abt 1833 ), Martha (b. abt 1837). Reuben married Rebecca unknown (born abt 1815); their children are Miller F.(1839), Martin L.(1842), William G.(1851), and at least one other male and female born before 1840. Dawnene Young
