    1. [TNMARION] Descendants of Alexander Kelly
    2. Wanda Casker
    3. When we visited the Whitwell Library, we found a hardback book had been published in 1976, called "Alexander Kelly Descendants 1750-1975." We were then able to purchase a copy from the author of her family. It is mostly genealogical, but it does have some photos of people and homes. I cannot put my hands on the information right now, but I believe the Kellys have a reunion picnic every summer. If anyone was interested you might be able to track down that information. wanda casker

    2. Haven't been to Marion lately but the whole county used to close on Thursdays because the stores wanted to be open on Saturday and didn't want a six-day work week. 3. for those of you not on AOL or a couple of the other carriers, here is the addy for the one Donna just sent in http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnmarion/research.htm thanks Donna appreciate the information - I will bookmark that one for sure Also Bill that is very interesting about the closing on Thursdays. Were the court houses also open on Saturdays? It would make sense if you had to work the full week and needed to take care of business on the weekends-- such as pay taxes, obtain marriage licenses , etc. betty

    2. The best place to go is the Whitwell Library, but go before lunch, for some reason they can't take turns eating and shut the place down for lunch.

    3. Kelly's Ferry Mine was one of the coal mines listed as well. There is also a Kelly's Cove just off of or rather near Battle Creek area. In fact on our web site http://www.noelm.com/marion/home.html , I have a picture of a dry creek bed in front of my Sister-in-laws house that lives in Kelly's Cove . There are still a lot of Kelly families in the area, I do believe. In fact my husband went to school with some of them. There was a store there by the name of George Kelly's store , referred to in a neat story by Bill McConnel on the web site as well. I was hoping some of the locals that live around there would be able to help you more than I can . Perhaps it is storming in that area and they aren't on line yet today. I know a storm was expected to move through the area about an hour or so ago. There was a post office listed for Kelly's Ferry in 1878-- post master was John Cummings in 1907, it was latter renamed to Oate's Island. The there was also a Kellyville Post office listed 1829 with Wesley Glaza/Thomas Hargis 1838 . I do have some more sketchy information here on the subject of Kelly's in and around Marion County and different areas named as such , but rather than bore every one to death with my sketchy bits and pieces I would like to step back and see if some one else that knows more about the area than I do , will please come forward with some more information for you . thanks Betty http://www.geocities.com/macbettyboop/sitemap.html researching McBee, Spence, White, Ward, Barnes, Murray, Rector, Kilgore-- Holly, Breshears, Flanagan, Stiles, Bradley, Whitenberg,Huff, Lynch,Chitwood,Hanes,Hills to name a few

    1. [TNMARION] Trip to Marion Co next week
    2. Ron McCandless
    3. Making a trip to Marion Co this next week. There is the Gen Library in South Pittsburg and another library (public)there I'm told. Does the Public Library have anything? Does anyone have documented information on the Kelly's Ferry and Kellyville line of Kellys. I'm trying to find the land that Joel Wheeler and Wm. McCandless bought together around 1833. Should be along the Sequatchie. I'm also needing to find information on Alexander Kelly's 3,000 acre grant and where he is buried. He drowned in 1838. Any help? Ron McCandless

    3. Ron , yes there is a lot of genealogy information at South Pittsburg , Jasper and Whitwell libraries. Whitwell seems to have more, and seems to be easier to access the information . However I have been to all three, and found all three to be very helpful. Sorry I can't help you on the rest of your needed information hopefully some one else on this list will be able to help you . Betty

    1. [TNMARION] change in list features
    2. macbetty
    3. Thank you Noel -- Noel has now set up the list so that your reply message will be returned to you by default. I think this will enhance the list, as we will be able to tell if some one has responded to the post or not . It will also make it unnecessary to use the reply to all button . Now there are ways that you can set up your email account still, where it will only respond to the list and where, when some one replies to your post it will only come to you. This of course defeats the purpose of this , as no one will know if any one has helped you or not. We have some expert genealogist on this list that are very helpful and their reply may be just what some one else on this list needed to know but were too bashful to ask. Betty

    3. For some reason, some of the posts that you and we are making to the mailing list are not reaching it. Other mailing lists are having the same problem. Rootsweb is apparently having posting problems. Also some individuals are being automatically unsubscribed when that is not what they wanted. From now own, if you post anything to the mailing list please also send either me or Betty a copy of it so that we can check that it reached the list. That way if it didn't we can repost it for you. Cheers and thanks to all, Noel noelm@noelm.com

    1. [TNMARION] Noels message to the list
    2. macbetty
    3. Noels original message has not shown up , so I will post it to the list. -- forgive us if it should decide to show up and we repeat ourselves. thanks ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I would like for all of you to be patient a little longer with our (MY) updating the site and getting all of the great information you have submitted to us up. I am trying to get web space on another server so that we will have lots of room and space for more photos and your memories. I don't want to have to do it twice so am waiting for the new space. all of the links on the current pages will have to be changed to reflect the new addresses etc when I change the location of the web site so if I put anything up right now I will have to redo it. It is hard enough getting it up the first time much less going back and redoing it in a short period of time. Also, it's not Betty's fault your information is not up. She can't upload to the current site, but will be able to do her thing on the new site. This is one reason for the change. It's a good thing that I don't live close to her because she would have already rung my neck a couple (or more) times for not getting your great information posted. Please hold any new information until we let you know. Hopefully it will not be much longer. We really appreciate all of your support and work that you have done in getting information and helping make Marion Co a great site. We really appreciate it. Noel and Betty
