    2. I would like to have any info on the Shelton Family. I have heard my father-in law tallk about Gilliam Shelton alot. i haven't had the time to research my husbands family( too busy with my own at the moment) but if you could sent it I would give it to him I'm sure he would have some interesting history to add the stories he tells about them are great, he is currently writing a book of family history (stories) for my daughter, I think he is on the 2nd notebook now. He told me one story about one of the shelton men who married an Indian lady whom he got by trading a mule for her hand who used to run back to her family when he went hunting. had to tie her up when he went hunting until he tied her down with kids. and when he died a neighbor turn her and the kids in for the money the goverment gave to those who would do such a thing and she and the kids where sent west, Sandra ( ross ) Shelton

    3. I love your story. That is such a great idea, about your Dad writing a book for the coming generations. I sure wish I had thought of that about 30 years ago or more. What a wonderful treasure that would be to hand down to the next generation. My cousin and I are comparing stories about her Dad and my Dad. Boy are we having a wonderful time laughing our fool heads off at some of their foolishness, they used to pull!! In the process I am also learning quite a bit of history about that generation that I had no idea about. It even has lead me on some new leads to possibly breaking down some brick walls. Your Father-in-law has given all of something to think about doing as well. I know my children would sure have treasured something like that from their Grandparents. betty

    3. Euline, No we have not corresponded before! If I remember correctly, I once asked who the sheriffs of Marion County were 1872 - 1874, and I think you replied through Noel that Raphael Shelton had been a sheriff in 1842. I would appreciate any info you might have on the Shelton family. I've been researching the family intensely for the past few years. You listed "Hudson" in your roll call - announcement. I believe that there were strong early ties between at least one Hudson family and my Sheltons. In 1750, Amelia County VA List of Tithables - you find Issac, Charles, Hall, Peter and Benjamin Hudson. Crispin and Ralph Shelton II, two sons of Ralph Shelton I, were also in Amelia County at that time. Later, in 1786 - Several of the sons of Ralph Shelton II have land in Surry County, NC. Hall Hudson is also there in Surry County. The 1799 Grainger County, TN. Tax List shows Benjamin, Ezekiel, James, John and Obediah Hudson in Capt. Hamilton's Company. The 1799 Grainger County, TN. Tax List shows David, Ralph (III) Richard and William Shelton in Capt. Shelton's Company. During that time period in Grainger the same Hudsons and Sheltons had close relationships. Land deeds describe "a conditional line" between the land of Benjamin Hudson and Ralph Shelton. Hall Hudson and Richard Shelton witness deeds together. Elijah Hudson is in Marion County early with the Sheltons and other pioneer families. The 1830 Census gives his age as 20 - 30. I'm not sure if there is a connection, but this Elijah Hudson would be the same age as the eldest sons of Richard and Temperance. Another genealogical coincidence (that I have not completely researched through) is this: My great-grandfather was (is) Ephraim Kelly Shelton. One of the sons of Gilliam Shelton. (These Sheltons had strong ties with The Kellys and The Prigmores. The three families had land which adjoined on the Sequatchie River and the three families intermarried several times.) My great-grandfather was obviously named after Ephraim Prigmore, and given the surname of Kelly as his middle name. Gilliam died in 1864. I have copy of Guardianship Paper, naming Ephraim Prigmore as guardian to Gilliam's youngest children. About 1879, Ephraim Kelly Shelton moved to Gadsden Alabama. In 1881 he married Media Davis. Media Davis's mother's name was Mary Fields. In the 1860, Cherokee County, AL. Census her age is given as 34. (Born 1826) Mary Field's mother's name was Delilah Hudson. (born abt 1796) Delilah's father's name was Elijah Hudson. This Elijah Hudson was born in 1769 and died in Jefferson County, GA. in 1843. * Elijah also had son named Elijah. Elijah's father's name was Joachim Hudson born February 11, 1733. Joachim's father's name was Hall Hudson born abt. 1700 in Amelia County, VA. Who was the Elijah Hudson listed in Marion County Census 1830? Thank You, Victoria Toms

    2. Hi Euline, Yes, one time, I believe. You sent me some copies of newspaper clippings for Mollie O'Neal, w/o Joseph Harrison O'Neal when I first started researching my line. I have since found that quite a few of the O'Neals from your area were and are related to me. My line descends from Baillen Britton O'Neal, Andrew, Edward, William B., Joseph, William Allen. I'm still trying to locate descendants of this family line. I haven't been too fortunate in locating descendants who are interested in genealogy, though. :>) Bill Bill O'Neal 73 Surrey Trail Rome, GA 30161-5946 706-290-0710 ----- Original Message ----- From: <H62833@aol.com> To: <TNMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 11, 2003 4:42 PM Subject: Re: [TNMARION] Re: Roll Call > Bill have I corresponded with you? > Euline in Tennessee > > > ==== TNMARION Mailing List ==== > *********************************************************************** > PLEASE NOTE: This list is for queries and replies, comments, > requests for help, and other genealogical related information > that is of interest to researchers having a connection or a > possible connection to Marion County, Tennessee. > Betty McBee-macbetty@bigskytel.com-- keeper of the list. > Marion County Web Site: http://www.noelm.com/marion/home.html > *********************************************************************** > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >

    1. [TNMARION] Headstone pics
    2. I took many pictures of Headstones while in Marion Co, TN and plan on taking more next weekend. I am willing to share if anyone wants or needs a pic that I have. Might even want to put them on site if there is a place for them, so all can enjoy. My pics came from the Teague and Smith Cemetery. Please email off line if you want a copy of a pic. They are not great since it rained all that day but like I said, if there is something that we can't read, I will retake it when I go back next weekend. There is a list of both cemeteries on the Marion County site. Helen L. 3. Helen , I for one would certainly like to have any and all pictures of the tombstones to put on the Marion County web pages , that you would care to share, that Noel and I are working on again. I think that would make it interesting for those that are so far away and still trying to do research . If any one else has some we would love to have them too. That way we could all share them and any new comers as well. Does any one know if the cemetery at Kimball, is under water or in any danger of flooding, since the Wal-Mart beside it is flooded? Would be very interested to find out. thank you -- Betty

    3. Bill I think that you and I have corresponded on the O"Neal's before. My connection to O'Neals is my Great Grandmother Hannah Jane O'Neal who married Adolphus "Doll" Teague. But that info is on another computer of mine and will send later if desirable but I think we corresponded before and that my line was possibly different or we exchanged the info. I have moved from Pelham to Pleasant Grove Alabama (accross town) and changed tele# from 205-663-9921 to 205-744-7062. Talk more late3r.
