No, I'm stuck on that, but here's what I do know. I have a Mary "Polly" Ann Smith who married my James B. Thompson. Her father William H. Thompson had a brother named George W. Smith with a daughter named Mary Jane Smith. Mary Jane Smith married George W. Thompson (blacksmith) and they had a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Thompson (wife of Wesley Newton Taylor). Polly Ann's parents were William H. and Caroline Louisa Smith. I only know that William H. had a a brother George W. through family lore. To confuse matters even more, our other Thompson (Benjamin Franklin) married Martha Ann Smith ... she was supposed to be another cousin to Mary Jane and Mary Ann (Polly Ann). I haven't figured out if that's accurate or who Martha's parents were yet. This gets so confusing because the same first names show up in both the Smith and Thompson line! Donna

    1. [TNMARION] Obit of George W. Smith
    2. Published Feb 12, 1909 George W. Smith, age 74 yrs, died Saturday morning, Feb 6, 1909, at 12 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. W. Thompson with whom he had been living for the past few months. His remains were carried to Winchester, Tenn, his former home, and were there interred Tuesday, in the presence of a host of friends and relatives. Deceased had resided here but a few months yet hew was a man of pleasant bearing and made many friends who deeply regret his demise. He was a faithful Christian and a short while before death, he remarked to his daughter, Mrs. Thompson, that death was welcome since it would bring him relief and that he was fully prepared for the end. He was ill but a few days but suffered intensely, having gastritis and a complication of diseases. In the war between the states, Mr. Smith, exposed the cause of his native south and enlisted and gallantly served in the fourth Tennessee Reg. In this were a number of veterans who reside in this section and who were comrades of the deceased. His passing makes the rapid falling off of the ranks of the civil war veterans and brings nearer the sad truth that in a few more years there will be no old soldiers left to tell of the trying times, the iron nerve, and faithful stand of the men who fought hand to hand in this mighty struggle one to free a race and the other to defend his home. Smith Hoke (I chase dead people) Researching Smith, Dossett, Kincaid, Carey/Cary, Jordan, Wheeler, Wiggins, Hicks, Daniel, Jones, Morse/Moss, Royster, McHenry, Alexander, Hill, Koger, Cain, Deakins, Hollingsworth, Stinnett from Campbell/Claiborne, TN, Marion Co., TN, Granville/Warren/Vance Co., NC, and Hanover Co., VA

    1. [TNMARION] update
    2. macbetty
    3. Thought I would update you that the new pages , at the new site, are progressing along very nicely. Shouldn't be too terribly much longer that they will be up and running with all the new information added, along with the older information too. I think you will agree when you see the new pages that the wait was well worth it. I must say that Marion County researchers are the nicest as well as most helpful people there are around . That shouldn't be a surprise to me, and it is not, since I have been married to one for almost 40 years :-) LOL We will send you the new address as soon as we have it all connected together. Again thank you for all the help we have received and also for your patience. Betty
