Sandie, Have you found anything new on our Hale family. Thanks, Charlotte H. Matthews
Hi, I am working on Arledge, Akins/Adkins, Lively,HALE and Ballew. Nancy Hale-this is my ggrandmother-married John Lively, year???. Would you by chance have any information on them. My grandfarthers name is George Conrad Lively, he also had two brothers one named Reuben, the other I have no idea. If you have any leads, it would be very much appreciated. Hi, My name is Yvonne Mason and my mother in Law's great grandfather was George Washington. He married Lydia McCullough. Lydia's last name has been spelled many ways. George's son was Gilbert H Thompson brn 1884 who married Lillie Myrtle Duke. Their son was George E.? Thompson he was born in 1919. They lived in Jackson Co Alabama. But it is our understanding that they came out of Tennessee. We have not been able to find out anything on George W or his wife Lydia. When Gilbert died in 1950 George was still alive. He is listed on the obit of his son. We think that he died between 1951 and 1952. We believe he is buried in Old English Cemetery in Fackler Ala. However, there is no stone, just a field stone. This could be a clue for the person looking for her Thompsons. I have more information if you are interested. I can be reached at ysam51@yahoo.com or here on the site Happy Hunting. Yvonne MDMOBrien@aol.com wrote: Hi All: I have been working with a gal out in California on our Thompson line. We found out through some common photos that we are definitely looking at the same line. She wrote me a note today and said that her sister lives in TN and wants to make a trip to Marion Co. I've told her I think the best place to start is at the Whitwell library. I didn't find much in the Thompson file that would help us on the areas we're stuck on, but I haven't been able to study all of it as much as I'd like. I know that this girl is new to gen. research, so I don't want her to get discouraged, but I don't think she's going to find much more than I already have. Here's the issues we're facing. We're stuck on the parents of our patriarch. He was born 1835 and we think he was orphaned by 1850 (he was living with Henleys at age 14). Samuel F. Thompson married Nancy Rawlings and they had 3 sons: James B., Benjamin Franklin, and George Washington. Our line: James B. married Mary "Polly" Ann Smith. They had 3 children: William H. b. 1890, Samuel C. b. 1892, and Mary b. 1902 (m. James Henley). Our "Uncle Billy" (William H.) left TN between 1905 and 1914. We're not sure where he stopped along the way, but we know he was in Washington State in 1914 when his daughter was born. After 1914, we have no idea where he went except that he served in WWI, for a time on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania. We're trying to find out what happened to William H. Thompson. I've checked the WWI records at TSLA. We don't think he ever returned to TN. We've tried NARA, but they keep telling us they need an SS# before they can help us. I've looked into the USS Penn, but it never went into battle during WWI -- I think he must have been reassigned, but not sure where. I have much more experience with WWII research so I may need to look in different places than I have been. I have a hunch that Aunt Mary Henley knew about William H. Thompson's daughter out in Washington and kept in touch with her. In the photos Hazel Thompson saved was one of Mary Thompson Henley as a much older woman. I know that Mary Henley had 4 boys: Melbourn, Jim, Roy and Sam Price Henley. I think Sam Price is the only one still living. Does anyone know any of the Henleys that I could e-mail and ask about this missing relative? I'm hoping that some of the old photos, bibles, etc. might have survived with this part of our line. Several of our Thompsons are buried in the City Cemetery, so I'm going to send her there. As a side note, our Samuel F. served in the 34th TN CSA Infantry under Captain Bostick. I have his service record from TSLA, but no pension was ever applied for that we can find. Samuel F. died in 1910, so the death records are no help because they didn't contain parents information back then. Does anyone have any suggestions on where we should go next? I appreciate any ideas you can offer! Thanks much.... My BARLEW-BERLEW-BALEW-BALLEW-BELEW-BELLEW-BALOU-BALLOU family line was also in Marion Co., TN. and married to this COX family. In the 1830 Census of Marion Co., TN. is Rebecca BELLEW, head of household. I have collected everything I can find online for this BARLEW family, even ordered their pension files, but have never been able to find out who Mr. BARLEW was that died before the 1830 Census. I have found a lot of information for his descendants of Marion Co., but nothing giving his name. If anyone ever runs across that information, I would sure appreciate hearing of it. David, This may be of interest to you. Listed in this cemetery are Nancy White, husband Robert N. White & Granny Cunningham (her mother). Nancys` 1831 birthdate would put her age at 76 in 1907. Sequatchie Valley News dated 1907 "Nancy White aged 76 years, widow of the late Robert N. White, was partially stricken with paralysis in her right side this week, but at this date is some better. Her mother settled in this country when the Indians occuoied it in 1810 and she lived to be 104 years old, and the last 20 years of her life was totally blind, and had to be led wherever she went and as she was dying her second eyesight came to her and she could tell the color of dresses the women had on in the room. She had never taken a dozen doses of medicine in her life. All the old citizens remember Grandma Cunningham, the motherof Nancy White, who is widely known far and near throughout this country and hndreds of old soldiers that are yet living haven`t forgotten her daring and brave feats during the late Civil War, and how she succeeded in carring dispatches through to the Yankee headquarters in her mouth, and she eluded the Rebel officers, and rode through the lines and delivered the the dispatches that defeated the enemy. She delivere them for her husband, Robert N. White, who was a Yankee spy, that very old soldier throughout this country will to this day remember. Esq. Teague has a book printed on the life of Nancy White with a photograph that was taken during the war of her on horseback with her long hair hanging down riding through rebel camps, with the war dispatches. The little sketch I know will be interesting to many old soldiers that are still living and know these facts, and will be sorry to hear of her sickness, and I know we will get a good piece from some old soldier through the News along this line."
