thank you Meg, I heard them talking about it from other lists. Sandy make sure you run a scan. If you do not have a viruses protection on your computer there are several free ones out there that are good. House Call being one , that I have heard is good. Sandy forget send them and delete them out of your system . Then run the viruses protector Betty
OOPs the last message should have read you are not suppose to be able to send messages , let alone receive messages from a list you are not subscribed too. Sandy if you would like to forward all of the messages from the ones you aren't subscribed to , to me, I can look and see what I can figure out for you . Betty
No I am not, but if it keeps up let me know and I will see what we can figure out about it. Technically is not suppose to be possible. As if you were not subscribed to this one , you are not suppose to be able to send a message to it let ,alone subscribe to it. Betty Sandy wrote ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem I am. I have received several messages today from Rootsweb groups that I don't even belong to. I also have a report on the RAWLINGS, if someone wants me to post that. I got it from the library. I think it's all of it but maybe part, but has some good info. Helen L. Smith Hoke (I chase dead people....and they are so far ahead of me, I'll never catch up. I think their hiding under rocks.)
sounds like a great idea Helen . Maybe even send it off list to those interested in it. They could contact you on the list . If enough are interested , then by all means put it on the list. betty

We have the original newspaper articles on these at the Whitwell library. Euline
Sandra...I don't know anything about the Burgesses. Finding Delilah's family will be a major breakthrough. I am guessing she was born about 1820 and I know she was born in TN. I know that the man she married (David Shropshire) was born in Madison Co., TN. They were living in Marion Co. when son John was born about 1846/48. Any guidance will be much appreciated. Do the Burgess'es that you are researching come from the Cumberland Co area? Sandra L. Shelton
Thanks Betty! Very busy tonight and have hit paydirt finally on my Thompson line. I have to get back with this lady about them and get all our notes together. TTYL... Donna
Thanks Pat. I will definitely look into those. I am interested in the Whites also since we're having such a hard time on them, anything will be a great help! Thanks so much! Donna

Thanks for the information. >> These books are still available and I found them very interesting the other book is EARLY HAMILTON COUNTY SETTLERS. If you go to CHATTANOOGAN.COM and go down to the section MEMORIES you can find information on these books there. This is a newspaper and he also accepts queries for the MEMORIES column. I have no monetory interest in these. There is also a sketch on a WHITE family that came out of Virginia and Hawkins Co TN. Pat Hoffman
A miracle has happened! The explanation is long and I won't bore you all with it but suffice it to say that a huge 4" binder of my family 'archives' that I have looked for since March has resurfaced and is back in my possession. It had left our home unbeknownst to my daughter-in-law who carried it out in a box with other books. Along with many other important things in the binder were all of my Shropshire documents. Here is a bit of what I have on John P. Shropshire, my husband's 2nd great grandfather: John P. (possibly Preston) Shropshire, born in Marion Co., TN joined Company C, 6th Regiment Tennessee Mounted Infantry on Sept. 7, 1864 at Chattanooga. His enlistment papers say he was 18 years old, but my file says he was born in 1848. He was the s/o David and Delilah Burgess Shropshire. David was born in Madison Co., TN @ 1812. John P., known as 'Jack,' was 5'6" tall, had fair complexion, blue eyes and red hair according to his enlistment papers. He was mustered out on June 30, 1865 at Nashville. It would be much appreciated if I could make connections with other Shropshire and Burgess researchers. I wish I had been researching in 1974/75 when my husband and I lived in Nashville when he went to college there! Sharon Young Jebavy <>< ShaLamont@wideopenwest.com
Donna , Hawkins county is where Mac's Wards come from . I also have some information on some Whites there but haven't been able to connect it to ours yet. Will send the web site off this list , if any one else wants it let me know off the list please. thanks Betty
Many from Marion Co., TN and the surrounding area who are descended from Higgins and Anna Smith Coppinger who settled in Sullivan Co., TN before 1796, belong to the First Families of TN . Marilyn Burnett Garner

Hi Tim: I am researching George Washington Sitz who was the son of William B. Seitz and Ellender Shote. George was a corporal in the Union Army -- 1st AL & TN Vidette Cavalry. I have seen Sitz spelled "Sitz and Seitz" and Shote has appeared as "Shoat" also. George is my gg-grandfather. My g-grandmother was his daughter from a second marriage to Sarah "Sallie" Richmond -- her name was Mary "Mollie" Mabee Sitz. George was first married to a woman named Margaret who was called "Peggy Ann". They had 3 children that I know of: 2 sons, Francis Marion and Levi N. Sitz; one daughter named Parsade. My cousin who knows more about the Richmond/Sitz side of this has been ill, so I haven't been able to check with her lately on all of this. I know that there is supposed to be Cherokee on the Richmond side as well as the Sitz side. I think it's Ellender who shows up on your Chikamaka Roll. I'm curious also....do you know if the Chickamauga tribe that is mentioned in several history books is the same as the Chikamaka band? Since they sound similar I thought maybe they were the same group with different spellings. I've been doing some reading on the Cherokee Removal. Thanks..... the Message Board is just another place to post queries. The queries will remain there for all to see, and can be searched for key words, and will reach a different audience than the Mailing List. Individuals may want to use both the Mailing List and the Message Board for their postings. There would be more coverage, more chances of making contact that way. Please remember this Mailing List can still be used for posting queries also. That is one of the primary purposes of it. I really like how ever one is using it to post their ancestors to it. :-) This list is archived of course , as all rootsweb lists are but some do not know how to search the archives, so that is why we suggest using the message board as well as this list.
