In the 1930 census of Whitwell, Dist no 1 (taken April 9, 1930) is Richard DUKE with his wife Ida and three children. Some of the children of Nelson N. Duke b 1792 NC were in this area (one daughter Sarah married to Henderson Sharp was in the 1850 census of Marion County). Is this Richard DUKE one of the descendants of Nelson N. DUKE? Do not know name, but did look up the book, Way's Packet Directory, it said it dealt with the Mississippi system on passenger boats, freight steamers, and all types ran by steam. You know the name of the packet boat that they traveled on,find a copy of Way's Packet Directory,and see if it is listed. Then look and see who owned it ,where it was ported,and what the "run" was for the boat.
