Darlene... the 1920 census which I may have wrote 1930 earlier if I did that was a typo ..in 1920, Marion Tenn census 4th district shows Martin, Thomas age 42 head of the house Amanda age 41 as his wife Sarah 18 daughter Turner , Henrietta age 17 step daughter and looks like divorced William age 16 and step son Ernest age 14 step son... on this same census is a Smith family and a Turner family maybe I have two families confused....but Henrietta is who started this whole search for me.. she was my grandmother, she had two brothers named William and Ernest..also was told by one of Henrietta daughters that Henrietta had a sister who was crippled... I am thinking its Sarah... in 1930, Henrietta is deceased and so is Sarah, with Thomas and Mandy is listed Ernest, Gladys and violet and Charlie powers as grandson. So I am 99 % positive this is my family line.. due to Charlie being in the home..someone correct me if I am wrong.. Thanks for helping out! deb In a message dated 4/3/2008 10:37:21 A.M. Debbie I might not have explained it right..... and I well know this is your Family 1920 Census Thomas Martin Ernest Turner age 14 be born abt 1906Listed as Stepson.. but son of Amanda 1930 Census Thomas Martin & Amanda shows a Earnest Martin age 15 be born abt 1915 so it would appear that Seems Amanda named two Children Ernest....or that Ernest on the 1930 Census would be age 25 rather than 15 as noted. Linda I appreciate this so much, I have been looking in the census for 2 years..my block was that all I had on Mandy was she married Thomas Martin. The name Smith I recently found when I got a copy of an obit on Gladys Allison..said her mother was Mandy Smith Martin...I then started looking at Smiths..but there is so many in the area and I never knew Mandy had a brother named Andy. I have a picture I just got last week of Mandy..or so I was told..standing with her grandson Charlie Powers..who was my uncle. She looked very old and very small in size in the picture. The picture came from Evelyn , Charlie's daughter who had just gotten it and she lived her whole life in Pittsburgh but never had seen a picture of her G-grandmother until her fathers funeral last year. The family apparently did not stay close..I have a few questions if you don't mind. On the census it shows a Violet Martin..I am assuming this is a daughter of Mandy and Toms...do you know anything of her? I have looked every where I know to look for her , but only see her the one time in the census report. I am planning a trip late April for Tenn. I would like to visit the grave sites of the family...are the graves marked do you know by any chance? I also cannot find anything on Ernest.. I have looked under the name Turner and Martin thinking he changed his name after Tom and Mandy married. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the help you have given me.You have really given me a lot to look at...and I appreciate the kindness!!! deb In a message dated 4/2/2008 11:50:07 P.M. I cannot find any proof of her marriage, death or birth of children.ITS SO FRUSTRATING!! I sure hope someone here will be able to help me find some leads to go on with Andy. deb In a message dated 4/1/2008 11:40:53 P.M.
