http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/smith/deathc1-1.htm I enjoyed this work and got a lot out of it. I play with families in Decatur Co. and eastern Henderson Co., so someone who works Madison County families might get even greater benefits. For an insight into families I play with, here are the people I know: SARAH CAROLINE DUKE (w) Aug. 16, 1840, Tn-Oct. 16, 1914, Jackson G. Duke, Tn; Sallie Long, Tn Beacon, Tennessee She probably is buried in an unmarked grave at Duke Chapel Cemetery in Henderson County. She has three siblings buried there in marked graves and her parents are probably there in unmarked or unidentified graves. I did not know previously that her mother was a Long. MRS. SARAH JANE RAINS (w) Dec. 15, 1825, Tn-Nov. 5, 1915, Jackson John L. Houston, NC; ? Graham, NC Parsons, Tennessee Her mother was named Virginia Graham but was called Jennie. Sarah married (1) Burrell Rushing and (2) Winfred Z. (Rennie) Rains. I live a couple of hundred yards from the antebellum mansion Sarah occupied near Parsons. MRS. LOU STRICKLAND (w) Died CD 4, Sept. 21, 1917, abt 62 yrs Born Decatur Co., Tn. RC, Potter's Field John D. Stricklen married Lutica Russell, Feb. 16, 1872, in Decatur Co. MRS. ELIZABETH DAVIS (w) July 6, 1835, NC-Dec. 14, 1917, Jackson Joel Rushing, NC; Ziphia Dees, NC Parsons, Tennessee My jaw dropped when I saw this record. Ziphia (Zilpha, Zilphia, Zelphy) is my g-g-g-grandmother. I have never known her last name. Knowing she is a Dees I know her parents and some of her siblings. Zelphy and Joel are buried at New Hope Cemetery in Decatur County. Matilda Elizabeth Rushing married Louis Franklin Davis. They are buried in the Davis Cemetery southwest of Decaturville. MARGARET BRASHER (w) May 20, 1845, Decatur Co.-June 12, 1916, Beech Bluff Rocky Springs Margaret Catherine Wyatt, wife of Charles Riddle Brasher. I wish this record had given her parents. SARAH DICY McNATT (w) Feb. 27, 1860, Mo.-June 29, 1918, CD 8 Thomas Rushing, Tn; Amandia Jane Kelly Bemis Cemetery This Rushing family is in Decatur Co. in 1850, in Atchinson Co., Missouri in 1860, in Decatur Co. in 1870, and in Henderson Co. in 1880 and thereafter. She probably is descended from Rev. War Veteran Richard Rushing, but like most of Richard's family, you cannot prove it. I do not know the name of her husband. MRS. LEORA BELL JONES (w) Feb. 20, 1854, Decatur Co.-June 22, 1919 James Calvin, father Beacon, Tennessee Should not say Mrs. here. She was the daughter of James C. Jones and wife Sarah M. I wish this listed Sarah's last name. On Leora's tombstone at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Decaturville her death date is given as June 21, 1919. JOHN SMITH (w) Apr. 22, 1852, Tn.-Aug. 13, 1918, CD 8 Wash Smith, SC.; Jane White, SC Parsons, Tennessee I did not know his parents before. Now that I do, I can say that he is my first cousin four times removed and that he married (1) his half second cousin Sarah Margaret (Sallie) Welch and (2) his first cousin once removed Ida Mae Blackburn.
