http://www.tngenweb.org/records/madison/cemeteries/bemis.htm http://www.tngenweb.org/records/madison/cemeteries/oakgrove.htm I know I said that I probably would not do any more Madison County cemeteries. However, in the very un-August weather last week I recorded Bemis and Oak Grove Methodist. Bemis Cemetery seemed very odd to me. I really did not get any sense of families there, even in a fully alphabetized list which groups all occurrence of a surname. There are a lot of infants and children who are in the cemetery but their parents are not. People who seem to be husband and wife any have several other burials between them. There are surnames which appear here but not in any other Madison County cemetery. All this is probably because the cemetery was part of the Bemis Brothers company town. The mill drew workers from surrounding counties but the workers may not have stayed in the area after their employment ceased. I also recorded Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, a lovely shady cemetery in the Westover community. On page 92 of the cemetery book for the southern half of the county it states: "The Whitlow Family Cemetery was on the north [east] side next to the parking lot, but it is all one now." I have tried to separate out the Whitlow Family Cemetery. I did not plan for this when I recorded Oak Grove so I will try to get back to check it later in the week. David
The Brashers buried here are my husbands family and did indeed work at the mill. They were from Chester county.
