http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/cemetery/bigsp.htm http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/blackcem/03-bigsp.htm By watching the Memphis radar I was able to get to Big Springs Cemetery yesterday afternoon and finish the updating the white section during a two-hour gap in the showers. I would appreciate it if someone who knows this cemetery would review the files for the white and black sections. I used an arbitrary, imaginary line to separate the two sections. My separation does not necessarily match that of others. For example, in 1989 Patsy McNatt, Wilma R. Robbins, Vera Spencer, Gracie Mills, Bobbi King, Renee Anderson, and Margie Dunavant included the Collier and other markers along the eastern fence and in the middle of the south slope in their listing of the cemetery, which omitted black burials in the southwest corner where black burials were then active. When Jonathan Smith recorded the black section in 1989 he also omitted the Collier and other markers along the eastern fence and in the middle of the south slope, but included the Andrews and Hemby markers, which I think are white burials. I would appreciate any help on this issue. Also, I would like to know when fieldstones were removed from the cemetery. I feel that a lot of space in the white section (but not the black section) has been reused. The south slope used for black burials seems to be full of unmarked burials, from the western access drive to the eastern fence. Interestingly, the most recent black burial is Elzie Green. Based on location, I would have listed her as white had she not been buried by Mercer Brothers Funeral Home. She was buried in a small unused area north of the imaginary line I used to separate the sections. South of her are a number of unmarked burials. To the north it is several feet to the nearest unidentified white burial and several more feet to the nearest identified white burial. David
