Diane, The Nashville Public Library has all of the Tennessee Census on microfilm. their machines are newer --- and not as busy as the Archives....The parking is better as there is a parking garage attached to the library. If you take your ticket in they will stamp it and you get the first hour free..... I not sure what info they have in book form -- I've been recently but spent all of my time on the Census. The archives has a lot of records on different counties (Book form) I spent some time recently --- mostly on the books due to the machines being so ancient (they do have a few newer ones but they were taken (early). I researched in Madison and Hardeman Counties and found some material....they have books also on the states. Especially NC TX, ect (Places that Tennesseans migrated to and from) Did I mention that the main library is downtown -- just a few blocks away from the archives. Parking is at the archives is a big problem -- if you go during the week -- the parking is for the "state offices" if you go on the weekend - it is better - but still a pain. (I went two weekend's ago and they had the street blocked off for some "do" at the state capital) When I go again (possiblility this weekend) I'm planning on parking at the library -- do what I can (or see what they have) and walking to the archives. Hope this helps some! Helen
