And besides they;re cheaper. I've put in several orders and gotten them all in about a week and it takes over a month if I order them from Nashville. The website is: www.tndeathcertificates.com

I finally finished recording the middle section of the white section of Providence Cemetery yesterday. It will be a few days before I get it typed and online. The final web page probably will be the equivalent of 50 pages of typing. In one way this cemetery was a first for me. I took a shovel and dug up some fragments I could see in the north drive. I don't think the grassy north drive was planned. I think over the years vehicles have driven into the cemetery, originialy weaving around markers and eventually knocking them over and breaking them. There are many damaged markers to either side of the drive. The digging revealed four markers not reported previously: Two fragments fit together: "Will___" and "H. H." My guess is this is the name William H. H. When pieced together they form the top of a marker with the same width and thickness as a nearby fragment with the death date April 4, 1858. Another fragment dug out of drive: Joel S., son of J. F. and H. W. Chandler, born Sept. 4, 186_. Fragment found just south of drive: John K. Jones, died ____ 10, 1861. Matching a fragment dug out of drive with fragment found in pile of broken markers and removed footstones: Geo. W. Pipkin, Son of G. P. & M. Pipkin, May 4, 1865-Sept. 9, 1865. David

I had spare time after recording the north and south sections of Providence Cemetery today so I went by Oakfield Cemetery since I had my working copy for that cemetery with me. I often find things in cemeteries I wonder about. Oakfield cemetery was established in 1914. Three markers there are: John Outlan, died May 3, 1895, Aged 81 Years Temperance, wife of John Outlan, Mar. 1, 1813-Mar. 5, 1890 James A., son of J. & T. Outlan, Dec. 28, 1855-Jan. 1863 These dates are obviously before the cenmetery was established, and these three markers are not listed in the 1989 record of the cemetery by Danny and Mary Ann Coffman, who recorded the cemetery in order by rows. So I am curious about why these burials were moved here. I will record the middle section of Providence next week. I would go back tomorrow except that the sun is gradually getting higher on the horizon and I got the right side of my neck and face sunburned today (as happens because the text is on the west face of most markers). I should have Oakfield online next week. David
Researching the Wade families that came south from MD. This would be the "White" Wades. I am also looking for relatives of African-American Wades who were members of a Warren family who later sold their slaves to a family of Wades. http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/cemetery/vf-prov.htm I discovered that the copy of Providence Cemetery that is in the vertical files in the Tennessee room, which I scanned to make the web page, is very incomplete. The vertical file copy only includes about 40% of the cemetery. The cemetery has two gates. The vertical file/online copy has burials south of the southern of the two gates (the newest section of the cemetery) and about 1/3 of the burials in the area between the two gates. It has nothing of the area north of the north gate. I will add a note to the web page later tonight, and I will delete this file once I update the cemetery. A week of so ago I asked for suggestions for two cemeteries from the north and south cemetery books to update before the weather gets too warm. I have been asked to update Oakfiled Methodist, which I will do once I finish the fieldwork at Providence. David

At the Genealogical Society meeting Thursady night someone asked me if I had done St. Paul Cemetery (its at St. Paul Baptist Church near Malesus). The name sounded familiar but I could not place the cemetery in my mind. Well, I finally looked up the cemetery in Jonathan Smith's books to find out where the cemetery was. I remembered recording markers there, but I apparently never typed it. I have hunted down my handwritten notes and will type the cemetery on Tuesday. David
