    3. I would like to ask everyone on this list to send something from your family to upload to Madison Co. TNGenWeb -- a family history, a transcribed will, a transcribed deed, a transcribed family bible, a collection of obituaries, photographs before 1920, anything! Just send any document typed in Word or WordPerfect and any photograph in JPEG (.jpg) format. Madison Co. TNGenWeb has lots of Jonathan Smith's great materials and some cemeteries but offers little family information. Please share information about your ancestor families. When you have time could you also help me with the 1840 Madison Co census. My Zebulon Rainey was on the 1830 census with several people in the family that I have not been able to identify. I have nothing documented on that family after that, except for an application in 1852 that shows he still lived in Madison Co. I am trying to find out just where he lived and the identity of any children. Could you please tell me if there are any Rainey, Rainy, Raney, Ramey, Rainy, (or other spellings) names on the 1840 census for Madison Co. Thank you very much. 2. Well, group, our list of "Genealogy hall of famers" is growing! Of course, Laurel Baty needs to be there. Thanks David, for reminding us all that there are many minds and hands at work behind the scenes that makes doing genealogy so much easier for the rest of us. Nancy

    1. NCA Abstracts
    2. David Donahue
    3. The real person to thank for the NCA abstracts is Laurel Baty of Maryland. Back when Jonathan had eight NCA volumes, Laurel agreed to scan two them. Laurel ended up scanning all 23 volumes. Because Laurel and others were interested in them, Jonathan Smith compiled more. About all I have done on the NCA volumes is take Laurel's Word files and make HTML files and set up the tables for the surname indices. David

    3. http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/smith/deathc2-1.htm I have uploaded Jonathan Smith's obituary abstracts for 1921-1924. Here are the items which meant somethinh to me. T. H. HARRELL (colored) May 10, 1856, Tn.-Oct. 8, 1921, Jackson. Henry Harrell. Amanda Harrell. Parsons, Tennessee. Tom Harrell is buried in the black cemetery in the Jeanette community north of Parsons. WILLIAM J. RUSHING (w) Oct. 16, 1851, Tn.-Mar. 16, 1922, CD 8. Levin Rushing, Ill. ___ Presson. Camden, Tennessee. I find it interesting that his father Levin is listed as born in Illinois, as other sources list him as born in Humphreys Co., TN. One of Levin's brothers lived in Williamson Co., Illinois. Levin's wife was Malinda Presson. BENJAMIN PITTS (w) May 23, 1859, Tn.-Feb. 26, 1922, Jackson. Benj. Pitts, Tn. Parson, Tennessee. He is not listed in the UDC cemetery book. Most common burial place for Pitts is the Hartley Cemetery in northeastern Deactur County. MARY L. RUSHING (w) Sept. 5, 1843, Tn.-July 7, 1923, CD 13. C. Giles, Tn. Miss Simmons, Tn. Cotton Grove. Mary Elizabeth Giles, wife of Abel Rushing. This Rushing family line is out of Humphreys and Benton counties. MARTHA PATE (colored) Died June 3, 1923, abt 70. Born Tn. Parsons, Tennessee. She probably is one of hundreds of unmarked burials at Clay Cemetery on Pentecost Street in Parsons. WESLEY BLANKENSHIP (w) Jan. 7, 1850, Tn.-June 11, 1924, CD 12. John Blankenship. Mahaly Derryberry. Bible Grove. He married Martha Ann Murren. David
