    3. http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/madsearch.html The TNGenWeb Search crawl has finally been rerun. I have been able to rewrite the Madison County Search to exclude the Nashville Christian Advocates. I have also set up a search segment where cemeteries also are excluded. This will make searching for other information easier. The Nashville Christian Advocates and the Western Weekly Review can be searched independently of Madison County materials. David

    1. Bowman; Lebanon Methodsist Cemetery
    2. David Donahue
    3. http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/families/bowman.txt A few days ago I asked everybody on this list to send me something, anything to share with others. To share something other than cemeteries, I have created a file of Bowman family information. I have not done much with genealogy since I began making cemetery web pages in August 1997. It wasn't until I was at Uptonville Cemetery and saw the marker for John Thomas Bowman that I remembered that at one time I had dabbled in Bowman lines in Madison County. The line is found in 1840 in the 15th district of Henderson Co. I think of Bowman as a famiy around Darden and Parsons, and the other Bowman family lines I have are there. I think of families in terms of cemeteries, and I think of Bowman as Mt. Ararat (Henderson Co.), Bear Creek, Bible Hill, Jeanette, and Parsons (Decatur Co.). In terms of cemeteries, the Bowman line I placed at Madison County TNGenWeb is Chapel Hill and Maple Springs in Henderson Co.; Mt. Pleasant in Chester Co.; and Beech Bluff, Uptonville, and Maple Springs in Madison Co. The farther west, the less information. One cemetery I meant to do last winter and never got around to was Lebanon Methodist. I decided to try going early in the morning, then go to the library and a movie in Jackson. Maybe I could get through the cemetery before it got too hot. I had already made an alphabetized version of the 1995 record to work with. I got to the cemetery at 6:00 and finished about 10:00 but it was already too hot. I normally try to flip through my paper copy and look to see if I missed anything. Yesterday all I could thing about was putting on a dry shirt and sitting in the car with the air conditioner on full. I did not look back through my notes. I missed a row. I know where I missed the row. About the fifth or so row from the west has four temporary markers at its north end. I had just worked from south to north on the row to the west. To get a reference point, I read the permanent marker immediately south of the temporary marker plates. Then I went north to the temporary plates (none was readable). Instead of going south on that row, I stepped to the next row to the east and went south on it. I went ahead and placed the Lebanon Methodist Cemetery online because as I thought there were many new markers and burials. The markers in the missing row are included from the 1995 record and noted as such. In the next couple of weeks I will get the missing row. It is easy to miss rows, especially where there are partial rows. You can also get off when you go to read a military marker used as a footstone. These may intrude into what should be the next row and I occasionally will follow the next row instead of the row I was working on. I usually catch myself when doing this, as I did once at Lebanon, but it would be so easy just to miss it. Every year I seem to go one day too far into May and have a miserable day. Yesterday was it. David

    2. Linda Higgins
    3. David, In the Cemetery Records of Madison Co. Vol I, under Maple Springs, my grandmother's name was misspelled. You haven't put her section on the web site, so I thought I would let you know the correct spelling before you did: on p. 60, top left column, "Mattie Byrom Heidelberg" should be "Mattie Byrum Heidelberg." I am working on sending you a family record of her Byrums of Madison Co. She was my inspiration for beginning geneaology. She helped her cousin from N.Y. to complete the family records of the Byrums of Madison Co. when he was publishing the first Byrum geneaological book back in the 1950s, titled Descendents of Henry Byrom of Virginia. Now don't get confused, Mattie's great-great grandfather changed the spelling to Byrum, so her maiden name on her tombstone should read "Byrum." Thanks you are doing a great job. 1. Re: More Cemeteries
    2. David, Thank you so very much for all of your work gathering the cemetery information and creating a database for each one. I have perused each one of the cemeteries listed on the Madison Co., TN website and have found several of the Hill family members buried in the family plots of their spouses. Your work has helped all of us and has definitely not gone unnoticed. Thank you from all of us.~Carolyn

    3. I had to return to Maple Springs yesterday because of trouble with my notes. When writing multiple marker inserts I did not always note in which direction I was moving, and I needed to know this because of maintaining the rows as defined by the Nolens. Updating a cemetery recorded by rows is a lot of trouble. Anyway, since I had to drive 160 miles to spend about 15 minutes in the cemetery, I figured I might as well do something else. I have added the Bond Cemetery in the Leighton Community; Hayes Chapel Cemetery and Sunnyside Cemetery in Mercer; and McDaniel Cemetery in Medon. Active cemeteries should be updated every five years. All the cemeteries in the north and south cemetery books are at least 7 yeras old and many are much older. If there is a cemetery which you think should be updated, do it. David

    1. Riverside Cemetery Repairs
    2. Wanda Lee
    3. Tuesday, May 4th was the one year anniversary of the F-4 tornado that devastated Jackson, Madison County with 11 people losing their lives and millions of dollars in property damage. Yesterday the city council approved a contract to get the repairs underway at Historic Riverside Cemetery. The cemetery took a direct hit from the tornado, destroying a mausoleum and turning over hundreds of markers. Classic Monuments is being subcontracted for this work and they are a local company, so I believe they will do a good job in restoring the markers. The story can be found on-line at http://www.jacksonsun.com/ Click on "local" at the far left side of the page under the heading "news" to find the story.

    1. Re: Ancestry.com & Genealogy.com
    2. Macon, That is the same issue that I had with Genealogy.com & the census subscription. They are supposed to call or email you prior to the expiration of your subscription. I received neither before receiving a late notice for my credit card. Since I never use that credit card I must have set the statement aside. Genealogy.com refused to give me a refund so I filed a complaint with my credit card company for unauthorized charges and a complaint with the Utah BBB. I received the refund, closed the credit card, and am now blocked from their website. Not a great loss for shady dealings! I have been fortunate with Ancestry.com because they do call me prior to renewing my subscriptions.

    3. http://www.tngenweb.org/madison/cemetery/maple1.htm I received comments from three people about Maple Springs. This may not sound like much but this is more interest that I've heard expressed about any other cemetery I have done. I have gone ahead and placed the larger but more easily typed West Section online. It is the equivalent of about a 40-page document. David

    1. I was billed on March 29, 2004 for 119.90 for renewal of services to Ancestry. On May 1, 2004 I got my Visa bill for closing date April 27, 2004 and saw the billing. I called on the next business day, May 3, 2004 to cancel the service, only to be told that I could not. The representative told me that I had agreed to automatic renewal and since the billing was in March, and I was calling in May that there would be no refund. To make matters worse, Ancestry in limiting access to the services I had signed up for by only allowing you to see a few records before disabling them, requiring you to sign back in and start over. Do not support Ancestry and for sure do not give them your credit card number.

    1. Another lie/Maple Springs
    2. David Donahue
    3. Near the beginning of last month I said I was not going to do any more Madison Co. cemeteries this season. I lied. I have recorded and placed online Shady Grove and Uptonville. This afternoon I finished recording the markers at Maple Springs. It will take me days to type it. I recorded the cemetery working on top of the 1989 record by Robert and Wilma Nolen which appears in the south cemetery book. The Nolens recorded the cemetery by row. I have tried to record the update by row, but I am not sure if I will be able to type it by row. Keepng the hundreds of inserts straight and typing the inserts in the correct order may prove too difficult. Also, It would be best for me to reverse the rows which the Nolens recorded from South to North. However I do not know a way to reverse the order of a sequence of paragraphs in Word, short of cutting and pasting each paragraph individually. Does anyone have any ideas? David ddonahue@netease.net

    1. READ- 1850 Census Look up
    2. Could someone who has access to an 1850 Madison Co Census do a look up for me. On Ancestry.com they show an Elizabeth Read on the 1850 census living in the 13th civil District on page 32. I can't get anything else on her. Could someone tell me who she is living with? I think this is the same person that marries Henry Baker in 1857. Thanks! Teri
