    1. Re: [TNMADISO] New Year's Roll Call
    2. Dear List: Sorry to repeat myself, but I thought read a few of your posts and thought I'd better clarify. These are the names I'm working on in Madison/Henderson/Chester Co. and I remembered a couple more: My KING family originally came from NC way before the Civil War. (don't know exactly when but after 1829). They settled in TN in Henderson and Chester Counties, but could have been in Madison. I don't know anything about the family before the Civil War. David KING served in the 51st Inf. out of Chester/Henderson Co. His son, John Parish KING married Nannie GILES (her family from Madison Co.--formally from Williamson Co.) and they settled in the Beech Bluff Community. Her family (father: Claiborne GILES) gave part of their land to build the Liberty Methodist Church and Cemetery and therefore lived next to the church until the mid-1900's. The name Parish or Parrish has always been a puzzle to me. Does anyone know where my husband's g-grandparents might have gotten this name to use as the middle name for their oldest son? My Madison Co. names are: GILES, KING, HODGE, DUDLEY,MAGUFFIN,BOLEJACK, LAMASTERS (I forgot a few before). We have one HARRIS in the family. My Madison and Henderson/Chester Co. (those counties split along with Madison Co and our people lived in the area that was moved from one county to another) surnames are: KING, BRADFORD,WHITEHEAD,GILES, BROWNING,HARDIN(G) "Unknown relationship" to GILES, but many listed as close relatives in the family Bible, is the name of POLK. If you know of the relationship of POLK to GILES, HODGE or BOLEJACK, I have lots of names and dates to share. There are 13 POLKs listed in the Claiborne Young GILES/HODGE family Bible. Names ring any bells with any of you? Nan Gaither, San Diego, CA

    1. [TNMADISO] Roll Call - NC migration to TN 1830
    2. James Shivers
    3. Researching the migration patterns of Davidson/Hardeman/Shelby County families and all points in between. I want everyone to think hard and remember have they noticed these names on any of the Madison County information. These families all migrated together and spread out from Nashville to Memphis. Most began to leave North Carolina from Pitt County and all moved west around 1832 and ended up across West Tennessee from 1835 and up Briley-----Farmers Fleming---Ferry boats Gregory--Millwright King -----Farmers -Cotton Powell----Masons Redditt---Elders of community, Executors Shivers---Home Builders,Seamstress's, Livery Stables Williams--Merchantile stores Williford--Administrator's,Executor's of estates, guardians of minors All of these families play important parts in reassembling a broken Baptist church group and they all helped in the raising of the orphans from each others families through the years. Little record keeping was done to assist us 150yrs later. All the families have the same pattern of broken, missing ties and around the end of the civil war most of them had also started vanishing. Any and all bits and pieces of information is greatly accepted on any of these families. This is a private project of James Shivers in search of Shadrick W Shivers final resting place. 1. Re: [TNMADISO] New Year's Roll Call
    2. A couple of things I have been meaning to bring to the list for some time (just to perk up some interest in names): 1st of all: To Jim Davis and other Croom researchers: Have any of you seen the book, Unpuzzling Your Past -- A Basic Guide to Genealogy by Emily Anne Croom??? I've had this book since I started this quest. She is researching the Croom family in Madison Co TN, TX and other places. When I first read this book, a particular name caught my eye: Pitser --- Which brings me to #2 It would be interesting to see how many Madison Co AREA researchers come up with the name Pitser. Pitser Herbert Jordan was my father. I always wondered where the name Pitser came from (after all --- His siblings -- as well as all 8 of my siblings (including myself) were named for someone in the family) --- and I hadn't found Pister as a family name. And then: While involved in the "search" I came across the name Pitser Miller....(forgive me if my memory is not quite right) I think in Madison Co/could be Hardeman --- he was a store owner -- seems to be a prominent business person in the late 1800's. And then I have run across all of these Pitser's -- besides Pitser Croom: Pitser Anderson, Pitser Blaylock, Pitser Miller Robinson, Pitser Crawford, and the list goes on to include these surnames: Franklin, Galdon, Goldern, Stevens, McNeal, Yarbrough, Rainer, Roberts, Sammons, Vaughn, Anderson, and Crawford just to name a few. I apologize for not having the correct info on Pitser Miller - I read it some time ago and do not have notes on him. Maybe one of the Miller researchers can help us out. I just thought it a researchers puzzle and found it quite amusing to see so many boys (men) named Pitser…..and just to add another sense of humor --- my mother's name was Alcienia !!! and have only came across it while researching the Chumbley Take care ! Helen in TN #2 It would be interesting to see how many Madison Co AREA researchers come up with the name Pitser. Pitser Herbert Jordan was my father.
