Thank you Nancy...at this time I don't find a connection but I am not as far back on the Russell yet so will save this and hopefully we will connect when I can learn a little more about our Perry/Terry Russell. Peggy
Dear Listers; I apologize for the very lengthy email regarding the RUSSELLs that I just sent! It was intended to be off-list, and I forgot to change the address . Just delete it if it doesn't interest you. It was for Peggy who inquired about my Russell line. Apologies! Nancy Noel

What I know is included below. The sources are listed at ther end of the report. I apologize for the sloppiness of the report, but it's in plain text--I have a glitch in my word-processing program that can only print reports in plain text. Hence, the sloppy look. I hope you can wade through it all! Yes, the short answer is they were from NC. Stokes Co. I believe. Some of the sources are original and primary in nature. The rest is based on a book online, about the ALLRED family, who married into the RUSSELL clan. I can find the URL for the ALLRED site if you want. Don't have it off hand. He and his wife and several of his children were buried in Trogdon graveyard across Deep River and south of his home”[14] 2. Brazilla ALLRED wrote in 1922, “When the Revolutionary War came close, my grandfather, John Allred, shouldered his flintlock rifle and fought for the freedom of the American colonies to the end of the war. The fact of my grandfather’s fighting against the British aroused the anger of Col. David Fannen, the leader of the Tories or British sympathizers, and he and his band of men went to my great-grandfather’s in search of John, my grandfather, who happened to be at home, saw them coming, snatched up his gun and secreted himself in the attic, and it so happened that they did not go up there to search for him. My great grandfather also saw them approaching, took up his gun and ran out northwest of the house and lay down behind a large rock. I have seen the rock and played around it many times when I was a boy. He could see Fannen and his men from his hiding place when they went out to his crib, later opened the crib door and let many barrels of corn runt out, did the same at another log crib, then turned their horses loose in the lot to eat and trample the corn into the red mud. When they had eaten all them wanted them to have, they saddled them and started on towards the western part of the country.”[14] 3. B.C.ALLRED continues, “my grandfather, John Allred, married Sarah Spencer and settled about one and a half miles southeast of his father where he reared a large family and lived to be about 97 years old. He and his wife and several of his children were buried in Trogdon graveyard across Deep River and south of his home. My father was the youngest of 18 children born unto him and his wife. Four sons and eight daughters lived to be grown and most of them to a good old age. One daughter died when nearly grown. The other five died in infancy or early childhood. They all, with Uncle William Allred and Aunt Vicie Dougan, sleep with their father and mother in the Trogdon cemetery.[14] 4. William’s will, dated October 14, 1822, his oldest son, John, received the largest portion of the estate, as was tradition. John received 1/3 of his father’s land plus an additional 30 acres more than his brother, William, received. John and his brother, William, were also charged with taking care of their mother and making sure that she was provided for. John received the western most portion of the land bordered by the Deep River where he was already living with his wife, Sarah Spencer with whom he had 13 children. John had purchased this land, 5 1/2 acres, on August 15, 1820 from Archibald Ellison for $60. [20] 5.Within 2 years, John’s mental capacity had failed so much that his son, Elisha, and son-in-law, Solomon Free, petitioned the court to be appointed his guardians, equivalent to today’s Power of Attorney. The court papers, filed November 8, 1848, state that Elisha and Solomon had declared John "non compus mentis" and the Sheriff was ordered to summon 12 jurors to look into the matter. The sheriff acted quickly and court papers dated the next day (November 9, 1848) state that the 12 jurors agreed, John was mentally incapab le of handling his affairs and they declared him a "lunatic". The jurors also estimated that John owned land worth about $1,000 and personal property worth about $1,000-1,200. Solomon Free was appointed John’s guardian. [20] 6. Where John and his wife, Sarah Spencer Allred, are buried remains a mystery. Notations in the Feree/Free family and Trogdon family files in the Randolph Room (Asheboro Public Library) and the family history written by John and Sarah's grandson, Brazilla, lead me to believe that John and Sarah are buried in the old Billy Trogdon cemetery near Cedar Falls.[20] Court Documents: 1.Transcription: State of North Carolina Randolph County To the worshipful the Justices the court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for the County of Randolph Pursuant to an order of the court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for Randolph County ordering it's Sheriff of said county to summon a jury of good and lawful men to inquire into the lunatic and insane condition of the mind of John Aldred, Sr., We the undersigned after being summoned and duly sworn from the testimony made in the case and from a personal interview with the said Aldredfind that he is insane and non conpos mentis and altogether incapable of managing his affairs and has been in that situation for the space of three months. There are some graves on the far left side of the cemetery that have small markers, but don't appear to have any names on them.
