    1. [TNMADISO] First Quarterly Report for 2002
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, The First Quarterly Report for 2002 is going to be just a little different than the one I usually send to the Mailing Lists I take care of. I tore my Rotator Cuff in November of last year and I find that I cannot spend long hours typing on the computer during the healing process, therefore I am going to send out one message to all of my lists and skip posting the membership numbers this time. I promise to get back to our normal reporting next quarter. Typing over 200 messages is just more than this shoulder and arm can take. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you” and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. If you have a doubt ask me. [email protected] 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. If you do notice that one of our members has a virus, please do not post their name and e-mail address across the list. Let me know and I will take care of the problem. Most likely the member already knows and is in a major state of stress. Receiving messages of each of us will only cause his or her stress level to rise. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller’s Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any Rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at [email protected] I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. I think it does help even though my gr gr grandfather wasn't listed. Several of the other names match up with names my grandmother gave me. In my notes I took when I spoke with my grandmother I had originally written down Pleasant Hill Cemetery, but then crossed it out and wrote Hollywood. Is Pleasant Hills a cemetery in the Jackson area? I can no longer ask my grandmother as she has passed away.

    2. Sheri: I finally got to the library and found the book. It is a listing of Riverside, Browns Church, Old Salem and Taylor Cemeteries. I believe all of these are available on-line at the Madison County Web page, but Jack Wood told me the advantage of the WPA book is that the listings were done in the 1930's and may have stones listed that were destroyed or unreadable by the time newer listings were made. Sorry it took so long! Wanda At 10:17 AM 2/8/02 EST, you wrote: >MADISON CO., TN TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS by WPA, 1937 with new index by Samuel >Sistler, 1999: 135 pp. 3,800 names. Full index. I have just recently started trying to trace my family's roots, and in picking the brains of all of my living relatives I have been told that I have great great grandparents on my mother's side buried in the Hollywood Cemetery. My great great grandfather's name was Marion Lutrell. My grandmother was not sure but believed that my great great grandmother's name was Melissa Lutrell. My gr-gr grandfather also had brothers Wesley and Joe that were also supposedly buried there. Are any of those names listed in the book you have? If so, does the book give any other information about the graves, like dates of birth or death? I would appreciate any information you can give me. Thanks!

    2. The Lee Cemetery is on Highway 45 South before you get into Pinson and I believe that it is on private property and has a fence around it. I have been meaning to call the lady that owns this particular property to ask her if it is indeed on her land, but other things keep happening and I haven't gotten around to it. I will make an effort tomorrow to call her and see if I can find out. I do know that it is not visible from the highway. The deed was in Madison Co. in the late 1840's I really don't know anything else about it other than they both (father & son) signed it. They are: JOHN TIDWELL & son JORDAN M. TIDWELL. If there is anyone who does this type of lookup, I would certainly appreciate it. Regards Bette Beem

    3. Before Ancestory put the census images online, I was buying HQ census records by the google. I've got many many many of them.... actually I still buy them even though ancestory does have them online. There is no download time. The quality is as superb as you can obtain. I agree with Sandra that the FTM records are not as high of quality as HQ's. I will always take HQ's 'digital microfilm' over any other. 1. Re: [TNMADISO] Questions
    2. Diane, The Nashville Public Library has all of the Tennessee Census on microfilm. their machines are newer --- and not as busy as the Archives....The parking is better as there is a parking garage attached to the library. If you take your ticket in they will stamp it and you get the first hour free..... I not sure what info they have in book form -- I've been recently but spent all of my time on the Census. The archives has a lot of records on different counties (Book form) I spent some time recently --- mostly on the books due to the machines being so ancient (they do have a few newer ones but they were taken (early). I researched in Madison and Hardeman Counties and found some material....they have books also on the states. Especially NC TX, ect (Places that Tennesseans migrated to and from) Did I mention that the main library is downtown -- just a few blocks away from the archives. Parking is at the archives is a big problem -- if you go during the week -- the parking is for the "state offices" if you go on the weekend - it is better - but still a pain. (I went two weekend's ago and they had the street blocked off for some "do" at the state capital) When I go again (possiblility this weekend) I'm planning on parking at the library -- do what I can (or see what they have) and walking to the archives. Hope this helps some! Helen

    2. Sandra Lee
    3. Hi Diane, I've been to the Nashville archives twice and was more impressed with the library in Memphis. This was basically due to convenience. Parking is a real problem in Nashville, so plan on getting there early so you can get a good parking spot. The archives only has about 10 paid on street parking spots, otherwise you may have to park in a parking deck about 4 blocks away. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they have Union soldier's pension records there. I did, however, obtain a pension ap for my Confederate guy while I was there. Another problem is the microfilm viewers and copiers. Almost all the copies I made while there were not very good quality. I've decided I'm much better off to order whatever film I want and look at it at my local FHC where I can make quality copies at a cheaper price. Also, expect to be searched before you go in and before you leave. I didn't even get this treatment from the Federal archives in Chicago! I guess the dishonest few have taken away the freedoms of the honest. :o( I have about 10 or so CDs....mostly TN records that I purchased from Heritage Quest and I have been very satisfied with all of them. They are good quality and easy to view but they are not indexed like FTM CDs. I've only ordered one set of CDs from FTM and they were very poor quality and it wasn't because the original microfilm was of poor quality either. I've been very reluctant to order any more from FTM. Hope this helps. Sandra PS Lucky you, I wish I had the Memphis library nearby! :o) >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [TNMADISO] Questions >Date: Thu, 21 Mar 2002 17:20:39 EST > >Greetings to ALL, > >I have a couple of questions for anyone. > >Has anyone been to Nashville researching for Madison County records?
