We have been unable to locate my GGF James William Gaulden, b < 1850 TN, before he showed up on the 1880 Macon County census with his wife Cynthia Ann, daughter of Isaac Lee Ellis and Phoebe Hargis. His half-sister's death certificate stated that her father's name was William Gaulden, but some younger cousins insist that it was John Gaulden.
