This is the birthplace of the "Second Great Awakening" in America. In 1800 a revival swept through America and the place of its birth was the Red River Meeting House. People from a 100 mile radius cam with camping supplies and spent 4 days in what is known as the first camp meeting. The Red river revival is an important event in our Christian heritage. Participate in various camp activities; re-enacting the living style of that time period. Demonstrations and activities will be held throughout the day. This will be a great place for children to learn and play. Some of the activities scheduled are: How to build a fire using flint and steel, Dulcimer and zither music lessons, Tinsmithing Seminar, Dutch oven cooking lessons, Candle dipping. Firewood and water will be furnished. There is also an area for modern tents and campers w/o water or electric hookup. Each evening there will be church services celebrating the great revival that swept through our nation. Period appropriate dress and music are encouraged but not required. Many denominations can trace their roots to this mighty revival and all are certainly welcome to attend and celebrate our Christian heritage. For those who place an emphasis on the spiritual aspect of life and Christian heritage, this event is for you. Church services will be held Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. The meeting house is located on KY 663 just west of Schochoh - -between KY 383 (Madison Street/Springfield Road) in Franklin and US 431 between Adairville and Russellville. If you plan to attend or need more information, contact TOM RULEY 202 Morris Street, Franklin, KY 42134 or call 270-586-7632. (This will help make arrangements for the proper amount of water, firewood, and other facilities.) ==== TNMACON Mailing List ==== Shelta Shrum and Barbara Hutchinson want you to VISIT THE MACON COUNTY, TENNESSEE WEBPAGE! This message is a PRIVATE communication.
