John: This is not my family, but I will try to help you. There is a John and Mary Adkerson listed in the 1850 Macon County census. In later census the surname is spelled Atkinson, but this John and Mary are listed in the Macon County cemetery book as buried in the Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery, Lafayette, TN: Atkerson, John W. 2 Jul 1808 - 4 Oct 1898 Atkerson, Polly 12 Jan 1811 - 23 Sep 1878 Hope this will help you. Peggy, Thanks so much, it does help. Is there any information on Polly, who her family might have been? Again, Thanks.
No John not that I can find. In the 1850 Macon County census there were two Adkerson families - William 45 Blacksmith born VA with wife Malinda 44 born TN and children, then John 42 Farmer born VA with wife Mary 39 born TN plus children. In the 1860 Macon County census there is only John and Mary's family listed. Peggy, you just helped me a great deal. I had not previously been able to find William and Malinda in the 1850 census since I was searching in Sumner County. I am grateful. John
