The deeds are in books there back to the early 1900's. I know they have my grandfather's deed recorded 1908 there. Also Malinda has been copying older deeds that individuals bring in and putting into a book called Reconstructed Deeds. Older deeds were destroyed in the court house fires and the reconstructed deeds are an attempt to regain some that was lost in the fires. If anyone has any older Macon County, TN deeds in their possession that may not be recorded in the courthouse, please contact Malinda about having these copied and included in the Reconstructed Deeds. My grandparents Bervie G. and Bessie (Kemp) Gregory in 1920 were in the 8th district and in 1930 were in the 4th district. I know where both the locations are as I was born in the first house they lived in and just down the road was their second home. I am curious as to who owned the property before my grandfather. I feel sure it was in the Gregory family but would like to see if I could find actual deeds. I know that my great grandfather W.C. (Dock) Gregory lived just over the hill and I think it might have been land that he owned. Any help would be appreciated. I plan to be in Lafayette, the lst week of April and hope to have time to do a little research.
