From: Nancy Gann Bobby, Could this possibly be Silas James Shoulders. I have his death date Nov. 18, 1864 S/O Levi and Celia (Grenade) Shoulders????????? Hello, Nancy, I would be willing to make a small wager that you have hit the nail on the head. I have the same infomation that you have except for the death date. . . .I have 19 Nov 1864 and I also have the notation "shot off his horse and fell into Jennings Creek, Jackson Co. TN". I got this from a DAR person who got the DAR membership by proving descendency from Malachi Shoulders, and if I'm remembering correctly, through Levi Shoulders. I haven't researched, or verified, the above notation but having corresponded with the DAR person on numerous occasions and seeing the quality of work, I'm willing to accept it as true until proven otherwise. There may be a typo on the date of death but it could well be that he was shot on 16 Nov 1864 and died two or three days later. I didn't see him listed in the Macon Co. Cemetery Books so he may have been buried in Jackson Co. Bobby L. West
Bobby, From a sheet of paper I have where 6 people recorded some Jackson Co. Cemeteries Shoulders Cemetery, Scaggs Branch Silas J. Shoulders Jan 15, 1844 - November 19, 1864. (They also have the notation he was shot from a horse. Levi is buried in the same cemetery. I guess we have to wonder which date is actually correct. I have walked through this cemetery 2 or 3 times but do not remember recording the actual date on the tombstone. On next trip I will look again.
