Some from Macon County, TN lied about their ages to get into the military during wars. But that may not be the case here. I have seen some really big errors when others are giving information for funeral records too. Was his 3rd child in the 1920 census born after 1917? That would explain the difference in number of dependent children. Buck is a nickname for William many times. I guess they had to come up with something besides Will, Billy, Willie, Bill. Does that explain my "brain vacation"? LOL...... Thought I was the only one that happened to!! It may be that they are the same person and the draft registration is wrong - but I was just trying to find out if there were actually 2 different Buck's - one being a nickname. Buck Hannon Butler, son of James Clinton Butler was b. 8/15 in IL - some of the Butlers and Kirbys from Macon Co spent some time in IL - some staying and some returning. This Buck was married with 3 children in the 1920 census The Buck in the WWI Draft info was also b. 8/15, having a wife and 2 children as dependants in 1917. Many thanks for your help.
