Did you notice in the 1900 census Henry L. Sadler says he has been married 50 years but Amanda says she has been married 12 years??? Her children are Noah H. age 9; Burthe (fem) age 6; Edgar J. age 3 and Samuel Haskel age 3 mo. She has given birth to 5 but only 4 living. And these children are 3 boys and 1 girl as stated in his obituary concerning his siblings. I think Lucy West Sadler died and Henry L. married after her death. Mary Knight <maryknight@famvid.com> wrote:Thanks BL, for the info from Hoke's book. The child that Hoke lists as Ligon H. It states he has three half brothers and one half sister living, unfortunately it doesn't name them. OBITUARY, JACKSON COUNTY SENTINEL, GAINESBORO, TENNESSEE, April 10, 1929. "H.L. SADLER CALLED BY DEATH" Henry Logan Sadler, for many years a prominent farmer and a merchant of North Springs, died at his home, Saturday, April 6th , 1929, following an illness of several weeks of heart trouble. Mr. Sadler was born February 24, 1854 in Smith County near Granville, being 75 years, 1 month and 12 days old at his death. He was married to Miss Lucy Ann Ferguson November 12, 1888 and to this union 14 children were born, 12 of whom survive. He obeyed the Gospel under preaching of Elder Joe Harding in the year 1883 and lived a consistent Christian until death. Besides his widow, he is survived by the following children: Walter, of North Springs, Mrs. S. E. (Mona Belle) Tinsley, of Cookeville, Mrs. Ernest (Bonnie) Shoemake and Dr. Comer Sadler, of Nashville, Herman Sadler, Mrs. Dewitt (Moline) Herod, Mrs. Bryan (Lorell) Crabtree, John H., Robert, Jack and Miss Tom Brown Sadler, of North Springs; also two brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Green, Mrs. Beedy Kemp and Mrs. Palistine Donoho, J. E. and B. P. Sadler and three half-brothers and one half-sister. Funeral services were conducted from his late home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Elder L. Neatherland, of Sparta, TN and burial in the Johnson cemetery near the Cumberland River. (Draper Memorial Cemetery now). So Henry Sadler and Lucy West either divorced as you suggest or Lucy's death date is wrong? I could almost swear that this is the same Henry Sadler that married Lucy West. But the one problem I'm having is that I have (and everyone else seems to have) Lucy West death date as Nov. 20, 1901. But I also note that Nov. 20, 1901 is the same death date I have for Lucy's father Ezekiel West. Mur, In the book, "What Is In A Name", Hoke Holland West says that Lucy Jane West, b. 18 Sep 1831, d/o Ezekiel West, married Henry Sadler in Jackson Co. TN on 26 Jun 1850. Hoke says Ezekiel died 20 Nov 1901 in Macon Co. TN and Lucy Jane died 20 Nov 1901 probably in Jackson Co. but he doesn't make any comments about them dying on the same day. Hoke lists the children of Lucy Jane and Henry Sadler: Ligon H. Sadler, b. 24 Feb 1854 Jonathon T. Sadler, b. 21 Jan 1857 Arley E. Sadler, b. 5 Oct 1859 Robert D. Sadler, b. 1 Jul 1865 Mary E. P. Yeah, Mary I noticed that also, which if correct he married about 1850 which fits the Henry that married Lucy West. The information Bobby L. provided doesn't exactly match what the census of Macon Co. has for the children of Henry Sadler and Lucy West either so perhaps his source didn't give him the correct info on Lucy's death? For instance Jonathan T. Sadler b. 24 Feb 1857 I think should be Jeanettie "Nettie" T. Sadler. I don't see a Jonathan in any of the census records with Henry & Lucy. Also Edward birth date I don't think is correct either he appears to be the oldest son and born ca 1852 not 1872. I think I will post what I've come up with and let anyone add or subtract from that.
