Hi folks, I hope all are looking forward to a Wonderful HOliday Season. I received this query and I was wondering if any of you can help this person out. Hi Shelta, Well the best that I know for Joseph is he was born about 1850 give or take a couple of years either way and there is alot going on with him some say he was born in Ky and some say Tn so to tell you the truth I am not sure at all and the Amanda(unkown maiden name) Borders I don't know if anyone knows anything about her but I did get Joseph's death certificate in the mail today and it says: County-Macon Civil Dist.-5 Sex-male Color-white-widowed age-67-Date of birth-unknown Occupation-blacksmith Birthplace-ky Name of father-Borders Birthplace of father-unknown Maiden name of mother-unknown Birthplace of mother-unknown Date of Death-Nov. 12, 1917 Place of Burial-Maple Grove Undertaker-C.D. Dillard Address-Lafayette-informant-Bettie Borders There have been several DNA test done from our family to see if we are connected to Peter Borders from Bucks Co. Pa. but the DNA test shows that we are not related to that Peter Borders but the crazy thing is that all the Borders in Allen Co. are related and they say they are related to this Joseph Borders. I would give anything if I knew who this Betty Borders was! Now my question is how and why did he end up in Macon Co. he must have known someone there maybe or this Amanda maybe her parents was there or lived there at one time I just don't know. Do you know where this Civil Dist. 5 would have been in that time period? Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. I am disabled and I don't get to get out and go to alot of places I would love to see if I can find records on these people. Thank you again you don't know how much a little of info means in these cases. Take care and hope to hear from you soon. Bobby, I should have added this cemetery is in Jackson Co. I believe Levi is the only son of Malachi who moved to Jackson Co. All the Shoulders I have found in Jackson Co. descend from Levi. Hey, The following census shows a Susan Meador, age 59 living in the household of Isum Blankinship and she is listed as "cousin". If anyone on the list is researching this family, do you know how they are cousins? 1880 Macon County, TN 5th Civil District, p80, 16 Jun 1880 Isum B. Blankinship, age 49, b. TN VA VA Malinda, age 45, wife, b. KY KY TN Sarah E., age 22, dau, b. TN TN KY Robert W.,age 17, son, b. TN TN KY John W., age 15, son, b. TN TN KY William W., age 13, son, b. TN TN KY Lavina J., age 11, dau, TN TN KY Andrew J., age 9, son, b. TN TN KY Celie C., age 7, dau, b. TN TN KY Martha PP., age 4, dau, b. TN TN KY Walter T., age 2, son, b. TN TN KY Wiley S., age 2 Mos, b. TN TN KY. Mary Jent, age 68, mother-in-law, b. TN VA VA Susan Meador, age 59, cousin, b. TN VA VA I think Susan Meador may be Lewis Wesley Meador's sister. The 1850 Allen County, KY census shows Lewis with Susan Meadow, age 29 living in his household and I think she must have been his sister. Also, living in Lewis' household in 1850 was Jane Meadow, age 38. I think she was another sister. NOTE: Their name is mispelled as Meadow on the 1850 census. I've tried for years to find Lewis Wesley Meador's parents and maybe this is a clue. Thanks for any help. Jimmie Nell Meadors

Bobby, From a sheet of paper I have where 6 people recorded some Jackson Co. Cemeteries Shoulders Cemetery, Scaggs Branch Silas J. Shoulders Jan 15, 1844 - November 19, 1864. (They also have the notation he was shot from a horse. Levi is buried in the same cemetery. I guess we have to wonder which date is actually correct. I have walked through this cemetery 2 or 3 times but do not remember recording the actual date on the tombstone. On next trip I will look again. From: Nancy Gann Bobby, Could this possibly be Silas James Shoulders. I have his death date Nov. 18, 1864 S/O Levi and Celia (Grenade) Shoulders????????? Hello, Nancy, I would be willing to make a small wager that you have hit the nail on the head. I have the same infomation that you have except for the death date. . . .I have 19 Nov 1864 and I also have the notation "shot off his horse and fell into Jennings Creek, Jackson Co. TN". I got this from a DAR person who got the DAR membership by proving descendency from Malachi Shoulders, and if I'm remembering correctly, through Levi Shoulders. I haven't researched, or verified, the above notation but having corresponded with the DAR person on numerous occasions and seeing the quality of work, I'm willing to accept it as true until proven otherwise. There may be a typo on the date of death but it could well be that he was shot on 16 Nov 1864 and died two or three days later. I didn't see him listed in the Macon Co. Cemetery Books so he may have been buried in Jackson Co. Bobby L.
