Thanks so much. The information I need is the family of Martha T. West, that was married to Jonas Whitley. Someone may have information on Martha T. West's (pg 288 Hoke West's book) siblings that would help to tie Martha in to the Whitley family, if in fact this is my grandmother. I do now know the name of any of her siblings. Thanks for responding, and I would appreciate any information you may have. I live in Oregon but I grew up in Pleasant Shade (Smith Co.) Tn. Is there anyone doing research on the Dies/Dias family? Edward Dies
2006 is here and our Executive Director of the Graves Family Association, Ken Graves, is already busy at work organizing the BIG Graves Family Reunion Jun 15-17 2007 in Williamsburg VA to coincide with the 400 year anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, VA of which Captain Thomas Graves was a part. He is also busy with the Graves DNA project. Anyone not a member of the association please consider joining. Go to WWW.GRAVESFA.ORG to find out more or email Ken at ken.graves@gravesfa.org. To learn more about the DNA project which has some new interesting facts about the descendants of CAPT Thomas Graves of Jamestown (or should I say those who thought they were descendants) go to the site and click on DNA project and do some research on what Ken has to say. Also click onto the DNA scholarship site and see the generations who are contributing to the fund and the DNA samples from certain generations. JOIN today and learn more about the GRAVES family. Also, we are asking that as many of you that can contribute something to the DNA analysis project. Ken is $173 in the red for 2006 and since he is a 100% volunteer a $10 or $25 or $100 donation to help fund the tests is appreciated. There is also now a Graves Blog about which the details can be found on the Graves site and sign up for the association newsletter. Happy New Year to each of the cousins. Hope to meet many of you in Virginia in 2007. Ron Graves in Texas GFA Volunteer
Hi Mary, thanks for responding to my question. My Whitley family settled in Red Boiling Spgs. Taylor Whitley arrived in Macon Co. in the early 1800's. Taylor was the s/o Jonas. My line is Jonas, Taylor, Kinchen and Jonas (my grandfather). My grandmother is Martha T. West. I have no information on Martha. In the Hoke West book (pg 288), I find a Martha T. d/o George T. and Josephine Dillard. The date given for Martha's birth is 1866; the date I have for Martha is 1867. I think there is a good possibility that this is my grandmother, however I have no way of tying her in with the Whitley's. Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated. Sharon, I used a lady and she sent me my ggggrandfathers Civil War papers. It was cheaper than me going there and looking them up. I was thrilled with all I got. If interested e-mail me harper@nctc.com and I will be glad to give you the info. L, I looked up in the Macon County Cemetery books, there are no Griders in Haysville, but there are 2 in Enon Cemetery and a Grider Cemetery with 3 listed. As for Jents there are about 28 listed in various cemeteries and about 35 listed in Haysville. Haysville is located on Scottsville Road (Hwy 10 N) in Lafayette. Looking for information on the West/Whitley families of Macon Co. Thanks, Joyce
Looking for any information on the Jent or Grider families of Macon County. Also, would like to know if there are Griders and Jents buried in Haysville Cemetery and the location of the cemetery. Thanks. L.Huggins
Does anyone know if 1812 Pension Application Records for Smith and Macon Co Tn exist outside the NARA? Thank you Sharon Tabor
According to a lawsuit between the heirs of Joshua Goad, d. aft 1854 Smith Co Tn, his granddaughter Martha Kirby b abt. 1828 was wife to Charles Pruitt. I cannot find a Charles or Martha Pruitt (and variant spellings) anywhere in the 1860 census. Does anyone have a lead as to what happened to this couple; if Charles went by another name, etc. I can't find a Charles Pruit in the 1850 census in Macon or Smith Co TN. Charles and Martha married sometime between 1850 when she was censused with her father Shepherd Kirby, and the lawsuit of 1857. Or maybe an error was made when the clerk copied the lawsuit into the county records and Pruit wasn't the proper surname? Any assistance in locating this couple would be appreciated. Sharon Tabor
