I was wondering if anyone had any information on JAMES SPENCER VAUGHAN/VAUGHN and his wife MABLE GOLLIHER VAUGHAN/VAUGHN. Spencer was born in 1874 in Sumner Co., Tn. and was the son of WILLIAM HENRY VAUGHAN/VAUGHN and S.J. BRAKE VAUGHAN. MABLE GOLLIHER was born in 1890 and died in 1978. They are both buried in the Gallatin Cem. I know they lived in Texas, not sure if they married there or not, but no record in Sumner Co., Tn. They came back to Tennessee as some point and are buried here. Spencer was in the Spanish American War and was a conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad. Thanks for any help! Sandy Simmons Mince

I hope this is appropriate for this list. It's too good to pass up. It is New Year's Eve 1852 and my ancestor sits at his desk by candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to write his New Year's resolutions. 1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give the appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year. 2. I resolve to see to it that all of my children will have the same names that my ancestors have used for six generations in a row. 3. My age is no one's business but my own. I hereby resolve to never list the same age or birth year twice on any document. 4. I resolve to have each of my children baptized in a different church -- either in a different faith or in a different parish. Every third child will not be baptized at all or will be baptized by an itinerant minister who keeps no records. 5. I resolve to move to a new town, new county, or new state at least every 10 years -- just before those pesky enumerators come around asking silly questions. 6. I will make every attempt to reside in counties and towns where no vital records are maintained or where the courthouse burns down every few years. 7. I resolve to join an obscure religious cult that does not believe in record keeping and I will not participate in military service. 8. When the tax collector comes to my door, I'll loan him my pen, which has been dipped in rapidly fading blue ink. 9. I resolve that if my beloved wife Mary should die, I will marry another Mary. 10. I resolve not to make a will. Who needs to spend money on a lawyer.

I am researching Nancy Carver Hughes, She was Nancy Carver before she married John Hughes. Do not know what her maiden name was. I do know they had a daughter around 1840 to 1845 by the name of Nancy Hughes and in the census you can find her listed with her mother Nancy Carver Hughes as Nancy Hughes Staley with 3 children. Are there any records on the Carvers, Staleys in Summner Co between 1838 to 1890 Godspeed Jeannie

Thanks Mary for checking the Macon Co. census. The info I have is that Jonas was born and reared in Macon Co. but at some point (I don't know when) moved to Smith Co. I have exhausted every avenue I know in Smith Co., and still find no info on Martha T. I have Bro. Cal's books; he gives more information on my branch of the Whitley family than I have found any place else. Still nothing on Martha T. I have the Smith Co. History book. Very little on our family. I have books from Smith and Trousdale Co's if you should need a look up. I do not see Jonas Whitley son of Kinchen Whitley in Macon County census after 1880. We have him listed mistakenly as James in that census. I do not find a Martha West in that census. Edward, I am not doing any research on the Dies/Dias family except to try and figure out why my husband's gg-grandfather Samuel Lamb, was living with David Dyas, age 53, in the 1860 Macon County, Dixon Springs Census. Other family members were Jane, age 53, Louiza, age 28, David, age 20, Jackson, age 15, Samuel Lamb, age 14, and Emiline Satterfield, age 18. Brenda
